Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Résidence Le Mésange on Rue de la Mésange, I almost missed it. It’s tucked into this narrow street in the heart of Strasbourg’s old town, and from the outside it looks like just another beautiful historic building (which, I mean, it basically is). But step inside and you realize this place gets it right in all the ways that actually matter when you’re traveling.

The location is genuinely spectacular, and I don’t say that lightly. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the cathedral – I timed it because I’m weird like that – and you can wander down to Petite France in about ten minutes if you take the scenic route along the canals. What I loved most though is that you’re right in the thick of things but the street itself is surprisingly quiet. I was worried about noise since it’s so central, but honestly, even with the windows open I slept better than I do at home. The rooms have this perfect balance of old-world charm and modern comfort – the kind of place where you get gorgeous exposed beams and original stonework, but also actually good Wi-Fi and a bathroom that doesn’t make you feel like you’re camping.

The staff here actually know their stuff about the city, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about good spots for dinner that weren’t total tourist traps, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic list – he asked what I was in the mood for and then gave me specific recommendations based on what was good that week. (The Alsatian place he suggested on Rue des Tonneliers ended up being the highlight of my trip, food-wise.) I also appreciated that check-in was genuinely smooth – no weird hidden fees or surprise complications, just straightforward and friendly.

You know what really sold me on this place though? It’s those little details that show someone’s paying attention. The breakfast setup isn’t huge but everything’s actually good quality – proper local pastries, decent coffee, fresh fruit that doesn’t look like it’s been sitting around for days. And the common areas have this lived-in elegance that makes you want to hang out with a book instead of just rushing through. I ended up spending way more time than planned just sitting in their little courtyard area with my morning coffee, people-watching and planning out my day.

If I’m being completely honest, it’s not the cheapest option in Strasbourg, but for what you get – that location, the quality, the fact that you feel like a temporary local instead of just another tourist – it’s worth it. Especially if you’re the type who wants to actually explore the city on foot rather than just hitting the major sights and calling it done. This is the kind of place that makes you want to come back to Strasbourg, which I’m already planning to do next spring when the weather’s better for wandering those cobblestone streets.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Strasbourg through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich Franco-German heritage.

Reviews

  • A very comfortable stay in a wonderful location – recommended! – Sally from Australia – 21 July 2025 (9/10)

The apartment is in a great location and was a comfortable size for two people. We really appreciated having the washing machine and the shower was also really roomy. There is a lift for that heavy luggage. There are lovely bakeries very close by and transport (tram) is essentially at your front door. The apartment was very clean and well presented; light and bright.

What could be improved: There were no condiments (salt, pepper etc.) in the kitchen and so it is important to realise you will have to bring/buy everything you need to do any cooking (there is equipment, however). There was an odd noise coming from near/behind the bathroom which may be associated with the restaurant next door/downstairs (like a food lift or something). It really bothered me on the first night but I eventually got used to it (with ear plugs).

  • We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely choose this option again next time! – Yana from Switzerland – 14 July 2025 (9/10)

We arrived a few hours earlier than the usual check-in time, but the flat was already ready. The reception staff were extremely friendly when I've called, opened the door for us and clearly explained everything about the key lock – how to use it and how to return a key when departure.

What could be improved: It was a bit noisy outside in the evenings, but with the bedroom windows closed, it was perfectly quiet. There is a kitchenette in the apartment, but no basic cooking supplies like salt or oil. However, Monoprix is right next door, so this was not a problem. Otherwise, the apartment was well equipped.

  • Exceptional – Konstantina from Belgium – 9 July 2025 (10/10)

The room is in the center of Strasbourg, near all facilities. It is very clean and has all amenities. It is excellent for longer stays and for travellers who enjoy preparing their own food, washing etc.

What could be improved: Good to know that parking is difficult in the area and that there is no daily room service. If I am not mistaken, the room is only cleaned after check out.

  • Beautiful, clean, bright studio apartment in centre of Strasbourg, would recommend!! – Angie from United Kingdom – 8 July 2025 (9/10)

Absolutely loved this studio apartment. It was so newly decorated, exceptionally clean, well equipped. I would definitely stay again. It was perfect.

What could be improved: Only small negative was the smell from the burger shop underneath but not a huge problem.

  • This place is a find. – Julia from United States – 8 July 2025 (10/10)

Great location. Nicely appointed. Right next to the tram. Nice, cold air conditioning.

What could be improved: Nothing. Fantastic stay.

  • Exceptional – Simona from Romania – 2 July 2025 (10/10)

I liked everything – the apartment was clean, very well equipped, spacious, cozy atmosphere, very close to city center and tram stations (just around the corner).

What could be improved: Everything was fine

  • It was a pleasure staying here. I can recommend full-heartedly. – Ulrike from Australia – 2 July 2025 (9/10)

It’s a great location, comfortable and well furnished. Aircon was great.

What could be improved: A few more Coffee pods (but then there are cafes around.

  • A nice work trip – Karoliina from Belgium – 1 July 2025 (9/10)

Easy to access, comfortable apartment, good location.

    What could be improved: –

  • Exceptional sway in great location – Robert from Australia – 28 June 2025 (9/10)

Location, good size, views to street, modern well equiped, very helpful and obliging staff (thanks Sarah)

  • We would definitely return if we were to come back to Strasbourg. I don’t think we could have found anywhere better – Jane from New Zealand – 26 June 2025 (10/10)

Gorgeous spacious newly modernised appartment handy to everything
Our host went out of her way to help and answered questions immediately
An elevator to help with luggage

What could be improved: No complaints at all
