Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Quai des Pêcheurs? The name literally means “Fishermen’s Quay,” and honestly, you can still feel that old riverside energy even though it’s been years since fishermen actually worked these waters. The hotel sits right on this narrow cobblestone street that most tourists walk past on their way to the cathedral – which, by the way, is literally right there when you look out certain windows.

I mean, this isn’t some luxury palace (it’s a solid 3-star), but there’s something genuinely charming about staying in what feels like an actual Strasbourg neighborhood instead of some generic hotel district. The building has that typical Alsatian character – you know, those distinctive timber frames and narrow proportions that make you feel like you’re inside a fairy tale, except with decent Wi-Fi and modern plumbing. The rooms vary quite a bit actually – some have those amazing cathedral views the name promises, while others look out onto the quiet courtyard or neighboring rooftops. Pro tip: if you’re booking, specifically ask about the cathedral view because it’s absolutely worth it, especially when they light up the spires at night.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know Strasbourg – not just the obvious tourist spots, but where to grab the best tarte flambée at 10 PM (it’s at Maison des Tanneurs, just a five-minute walk), or which entrance to use for the cathedral to avoid the cruise ship crowds. The neighborhood itself is perfect for that whole “living like a local” thing without being inconvenient. You’re literally steps from Petite France – I could walk there in my pajamas if I wanted to – but you’re also close enough to the train station that you don’t need to wrestle your luggage across half the city.

Parking can be a bit tricky (welcome to European city centers), but there’s a public garage about two blocks away on Rue du 22 Novembre. The hotel itself gets surprisingly quiet at night considering you’re in the heart of the old town – these old buildings have thick walls, I guess. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that overly formal reception desk theater you get at chain hotels.

The 8.9 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not flawless, but it delivers exactly what it promises. The breakfast is simple but uses good local ingredients, the rooms are clean and comfortable without trying to be Instagram-perfect, and the location honestly can’t be beat if you want to explore Strasbourg on foot. I’d definitely stay here again, especially during Christmas market season when being this close to the cathedral square is pure gold.

Reviews

  • A beautiful and memorable Christmas in Strasbourg in very comfortable surrounds. – Anne from Australia – 27 December 2024 (9/10)

The apartment is perfectly situated to access the tram, the city centre and to explore the local shops. It is larger than we expected and very comfortable with a gorgeous view for watching the river and life pass by from the window! The host was very responsive and helpful.

What could be improved: The kitchen could use a few more cooking utensils for a family to prepare a meal. A peeler for example and a spatula/turner are cheap but very useful implements (as is a wine/champagne stopper, but not so necessary!)

  • Convenient place to stay for cathedral and tram to station – Shirley from United Kingdom – 16 September 2024 (9/10)

Location was good. View of the river, 2 minutes walk to the tram stop, 15 minute stroll to the cathedral. Local bakery and restaurants in the street, but it was quiet in the back bedroom. Owner replied promptly to any questions. Very clean, shower was good, comfy beds. Used sofa bed and main bed. Caught tram from station and at accommodation 15 minutes later. Plenty of space in the apartment.

  • If I come back to Strasbourg then I would stay at Quai des Pecheurs again. – Carole from United Kingdom – 30 June 2024 (9/10)

Beautiful setting in a lovely part of the city which is slightly away from the tourist crowds. Apartment very well equipped, clean and attractive.

What could be improved: Perhaps more written instructions regarding where to place the rubbish and recycling – I hope we put them in the correct place! The instructions that were present were in English as well as French which was very helpful.

  • My stay here was perfect! – Jenny from United Kingdom – 30 May 2024 (10/10)

Beautiful apartment: comfortable, interesting, perfectly equipped, and right in the heart of the city. Very straightforward to communicate with Tania and to get access.

  • Lovely Stay in Strasbourg! – Erin from United States – 4 January 2024 (10/10)

We loved everything about this apartment! The size was perfect for our family of 5, 3 kids & 2 adults. We stayed for 6 nights & loved the original architectural details of this timber frame residence. Exposed beams throughout & thick plaster walls. Windows open to the street, but we heard no street noise! Even on New years Eve! Totally quiet! We felt very safe at this property & the owners did everything in their power to ensure our comfort! Plenty of towels, extra pillows & duvets for the pullout sofas, coffee pods & tea bags! Lots of storage!!!
The sofa beds were very comfortable & the king-size bed in the bedroom was perfectly adequate. It was nice to have a true king size with 2 twins together & separate duvets! The bathroom arrangement was ideal with a modern sink & shower. Heated towel rack was a bonus that was necessary!!! Toilet was in a separate room adjacent to the bathroom. The kitchen was absolutely perfect & it was so nice to have a full-size fridge, electric stove top, & microwave. Coffee maker & kettle were perfect & saved the day! We stopped by the Carrefour Express, across from the tram stop & 1 block from the apartment & picked up eggs, butter, cream, etc, to cook breakfast each morning. There are 2 bakeries/patisseries on the same street as the apartment! Perfect to pick up your croissant & Baguette each morning! We would stay here again & will recommend it to friends!

What could be improved: Nothing. Everything was perfect & exceeded expectations!

  • Highly recommended – Konul from Azerbaijan – 19 December 2023 (10/10)

What could be improved: I liked everything.

  • Nice little gem in a cool district of Stasbourg, city center is a stonedrop away. – Daniel from Germany – 5 November 2023 (9/10)

The apartment is really nice and in a very cool district. Old house with a beautiful view on the canal. All is cosy and nice.

What could be improved: The house is old one has to air often, comes with the house and is normal.
