Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Porte de France? I was expecting another cookie-cutter business hotel on Rue de Lausanne, but this place actually has some soul to it. The location is honestly perfect if you want to be close to everything without dealing with the tourist chaos around the cathedral – you’re literally a five-minute walk from Gare Centrale, which means you can dump your bags and be exploring Petite France in no time. The street itself is pretty quiet at night, though you’ll hear the occasional tram rumbling by (honestly, I found it kind of soothing after a few days).
The staff here really know their stuff, and I mean beyond just the usual “bonjour, how can I help you” routine. The woman at reception – I think her name was Marie? – she actually drew me a little map of the best route to the European Parliament buildings and warned me about construction on Pont de l’Europe that would’ve added twenty minutes to my walk. Little things like that make such a difference when you’re trying to navigate a new city. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place, nothing revolutionary but everything works properly (the shower pressure is actually decent, which… if you’ve stayed in enough European hotels, you know that’s not guaranteed). I particularly loved the view from the third floor – you can see toward the old town, and in the morning the light hits those Alsatian rooftops just right.
What really impressed me was how they handle the practical stuff. Parking is available right there, which is honestly a godsend in Strasbourg where finding a spot can be a nightmare, especially during the Christmas market season. They also seem to have figured out that business travelers need reliable WiFi and actually good coffee in the morning – both delivered without fuss. The breakfast spread leans heavily into local specialties too, with proper Alsatian breads and regional cheeses that you won’t find at the chain hotels. I mean, it’s not going to change your life, but it shows they care about where they are rather than just following some corporate manual. The 9.5 rating doesn’t surprise me at all – this is the kind of place that does the fundamentals really well without trying to be something it’s not.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Strasbourg at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak December season when the city hosts its world-famous Christmas celebrations.

Comfortable, quiet, well equipped apartment with balcony and AC – Jacqui from Australia – 13 July 2025 (9/10)
This is a very well equipped apartment overlooking one of Strasbourg's canals with balcony and AC
The kitchen has everything you need (and then some more!) and everything works as expected – coffee machine, kettle, iron, washing machine, dishwasher etc.
Anastasie, the host, greeted us and showed us around the apartment – leaving gifts of jam, honey and apple juice and many bottles of water. Much appreciated in the hot weather!
The location is an easy 12 min walk to Strasbourg cathedral and the delights of the Old Town. There are several supermarkets close by, and one under the building. Local cafes do not have "tourist surcharge" pricing.
Very quiet in the evening – no noise to disturb sleep.

Anastasie, an excellent hostess, she gave us everything we needed!! always there for any information and help!! the apartment has everything for a family like us, the location is so convenient next to bus station, just a few minutes from old city and all the attractions, next to supermarket!!!
What could be improved: If there something that i didn't like is the WC of the apartment, , it is a little bit small for a big guy like me …Our stay at Porte de France was fabulous. It’d be great for longer term stays than ours too. – Yin from Australia – 13 May 2025 (10/10)

Home away from home. Lovely apartment that was spacious and practical – washer dryer was great mid trip for us. Great shower. Host goes above and beyond welcoming us with champagne and fresh juice. Apartment is on the quieter side of town but close to great coffee and a supermarket right underneath + public transport is 2 mins away. I would recommend this apartment for long stays!
