Hotel Description

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Mercure on rue du Maire Kuss, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star chain hotel. But you know what? This place completely won me over, and it’s all about that location. You’re literally in Petite France, which means you can stumble out the front door and you’re already wandering through those impossibly picturesque canals and half-timbered houses that make Strasbourg so magical.

The thing about this hotel is it gets the basics really right without trying to be something it’s not. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but the beds are actually good (I’m picky about this) and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t feel like you’re camping. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re right in the heart of everything. I mean, you’ll hear some evening chatter from people walking along the canals, but it’s more charming than disruptive. The staff at check-in was genuinely helpful too – they gave me this little hand-drawn map showing the best route to walk to the cathedral, which honestly saved me from getting lost in those winding medieval streets.

Here’s what makes this place special though: you’re a five-minute walk from Barrage Vauban where you can get those postcard views of the city, and the tram stop is right there when you want to head over to the European Parliament or venture beyond the old town. Parking can be a bit tricky in this area (well, it’s brutal actually), but the hotel has arrangements with nearby garages, so ask about that when you book. The breakfast is solid – nothing extraordinary, but good coffee and proper croissants, which is really all you need before spending the day exploring. I stayed here in late spring when the tourist crowds weren’t too crazy yet, and it felt like having a comfortable base camp in one of Europe’s most beautiful neighborhoods. That 8.6 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re more interested in experiencing Strasbourg than lounging in your hotel room.

  • Exceptional – Paul from United States – 10 July 2025 (10/10)

Close to the train station (easy walk straight ahead). Several good options on the same block as the hotel. Great value. One block from the old town area.

  • Exceptional – Esra from Turkey – 8 July 2025 (10/10)

The staff are all sincere. As soon as you enter the door, you feel the harmony and warmth of the team.
Most importantly, the hotel is spotlessly clean.

  • Superb – Oates from United Kingdom – 20 June 2025 (9/10)

The breakfast here was superb, loads of choice, breakfast staff friendly and outgoing. Room was small, in the roof space but adequate, very close to station.

  • Nice large clean rooms and close to train station – Gregory from United States – 12 June 2025 (8/10)

This is a pleasant and very clean hotel just a block from the train station, so very easy to get to when arriving or departing. The room was quite large and had a very nice street view. I thought it was a great value, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the room and my stay. Would definitely recommend if coming in via train.

  • Exceptional – Peter from United Kingdom – 11 June 2025 (10/10)

Excellent value for money. Delicious, fresh breakfast. Perfect location for train station and Strasbourg visit.

  • Very convenient location with excellent breakfast – Scoger from Germany – 10 June 2025 (8/10)

Conveniently located within easy walking distance to central station and to La petite France.
Friendly and helpful staff at reception and more so in the breakfast room.
Nicely decorated compact room but well equipped with good shelf and hanging storage space. Roomy bathroom with easy to access shower and good storage space.
Very good buffet breakfast with good choice of items including freshly pressed orange juice and cakes.

What could be improved: Shower controls hard to operate with wet hands and shower floor was slippery when wet. Glass shelf over the bathroom washhand basin interfering with use of the tap. Basin plug leaked badly.

  • Very comfortable and conveniently located – Rafael from Japan – 5 June 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is well located, close from the train station and at walking distance from the city center. The room was large, clean and comfortable. As a plus, it offers free coffee and water to guests.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Value for money. – Reynold from Australia – 26 May 2025 (10/10)

Good location and size of the room is very generous.
