Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about the Mercure Strasbourg Centre? It’s tucked away on Rue Thomann in this perfect sweet spot where you’re actually in the heart of things but not drowning in tourist chaos. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Place Kléber – and if you don’t know Strasbourg, that’s basically the beating heart of the city where all the trams converge and the Christmas market absolutely explodes every December.
The hotel itself feels refreshingly honest for a 4-star place. The lobby has this understated French elegance without trying too hard, and honestly, the staff seems genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. I’ve stayed in enough Mercure properties to know they can be hit or miss, but this one gets the local vibe right. The rooms are what you’d expect – clean, comfortable, with those thick European curtains that actually block out light (thank god, because Strasbourg summers stay bright until like 10 PM). The bathrooms are compact but functional, though I’ll warn you the water pressure varies depending on which floor you’re on – something about the building’s age, apparently.
What really makes this place work is the location knowledge you gain just by staying here. The front desk folks will steer you toward Rue des Serruriers for dinner instead of the obvious tourist traps near the cathedral, and they’re absolutely right – that little street has some gems. You’re close enough to walk to Petite France (the ridiculously photogenic canal district) in about fifteen minutes, but you can also catch the tram right from Place Kléber if your feet are done for the day. Parking’s the usual European city nightmare, but they have a deal with a nearby garage that’s actually reasonable by Strasbourg standards.
The 7.4 rating feels about right – it’s solidly good without being spectacular. Some rooms face the courtyard and are whisper-quiet, while others get street noise from Rue Thomann, which isn’t terrible but you’ll hear the occasional late-night tram. Breakfast is typical French hotel fare (good pastries, decent coffee, nothing revolutionary), and they serve it until a civilized 10:30 AM, which I appreciate. The whole place has this lived-in feel that works well in a city like Strasbourg, where everything’s got layers of history anyway. You’re not staying in some sterile business hotel – you’re in a place that feels like it belongs in this maze of medieval streets and half-timbered houses, just with modern amenities and reliable Wi-Fi.

What could be improved: Carpet and bathroom a little tired, but functionalVery good – Alfred from Denmark – 14 June 2023 (8/10)
The room was quite big, quiet and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast in the top terrace was very complete and the views very nice.
What could be improved: A bit expensive price for the state of the hotel, needs some renovations, especially when it comes to the rooms.Perfect Location and Great Breakfast – Angélica from Switzerland – 25 May 2023 (8/10)
The location was ideal, walking distance to all the touristic points. The room was comfortable, with a nice view and clean. The parking is on the same building, so very convenient. The best was the breakfast, tasty, varied and until 11:00 AM 😀 Also the view from the terrace is amazing.
What could be improved: My only complaint is there was no elevator from the parking to the reception, you have to carry everything upstairs.Good – Marketa_ from Czech Republic – 23 May 2023 (7/10)
Great hotel location within walking distance of major sights and to the train station, quiet overnight, very comfortable beds + two pillows, spacious bedroom and bathroom, friendly staff
What could be improved: Old furnishings – rooms would need renovation, little emphasis on ecology (impractical disposable cups instead of glass), expensive breakfast
