Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from an apartment hotel with such a long French name, but Maison de l’Aar completely surprised me. The moment you walk into “le Diamant” – which is actually what most people call it – you get why they named it after a diamond. Everything just sparkles, you know? Not in a gaudy way, but there’s this refined elegance that feels both luxurious and surprisingly cozy at the same time.

The location on Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau is actually brilliant, though you might walk past it the first time since it’s tucked into this charming row of Alsatian buildings. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Place Kléber (I timed it), which means you can grab morning pastries from the Saturday market or duck into Galeries Lafayette when it’s raining – and trust me, it rains in Strasbourg. What I really loved though is how quiet it gets at night. The street has just enough activity during the day to feel alive, but by 10 PM you can actually sleep with the windows cracked open, which is rare in city centers.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s stylish friend let you crash at their place, except everything is impossibly clean and well-thought-out. The kitchen has this gorgeous marble countertop that photographs beautifully (important for some of us), but more importantly, it’s actually functional – good knives, proper cookware, even decent wine glasses. I mean, the whole place screams “new renovation” but in the best possible way. The bathroom has one of those rainfall showers that makes you not want to leave, and honestly, the bed situation is perfect. Firm enough that you don’t sink in, but soft enough that I slept better than I have in months. The only tiny thing I’d mention is that the air conditioning can be a bit noisy, but that’s pretty standard for European apartments, and you probably won’t need it much anyway since the building stays naturally cool.

What really sets this place apart – and why I’d absolutely stay here again – is how it bridges that gap between hotel service and apartment freedom. You get proper daily housekeeping if you want it, but you also have space to spread out, do laundry, or just sit at the little dining table with coffee and plan your day without feeling cramped. Plus, parking is actually manageable in this area (there’s a public garage two blocks away), which anyone who’s driven in Strasbourg will appreciate. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself extending your stay just because leaving feels unnecessarily complicated.
