Hotel Description
You know that feeling when you stumble across a place that’s been hiding in plain sight? That’s exactly what happened when I found this 1850s charmer tucked away on Rue de la Musau in Neudorf. Honestly, I walked past it twice before realizing this unassuming facade was actually my hotel – and I mean that in the best way possible. There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t scream “TOURIST HOTEL” from the street, especially in a city where half the accommodations seem designed by committee.
The moment you step inside, though, you get it. The original hardwood floors creak just enough to remind you of the building’s age without feeling like you’re staying in your grandmother’s attic, and the way they’ve preserved the period details while sneaking in modern comforts is actually pretty impressive. My room had these gorgeous high ceilings and original moldings that probably cost more to restore than most people’s entire renovation budgets. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious too – I mean, we’re talking about a 170-year-old building here, so I wasn’t exactly expecting a spa-sized shower, but they managed it somehow. The bed was one of those setups where you sink in just enough to feel cozy without disappearing entirely, which is honestly harder to find than you’d think.
What really won me over was the location, though most people probably don’t know how perfect Neudorf actually is. You’re about a fifteen-minute walk to the cathedral and all that tourist stuff, but you’re also right in this lovely residential area where actual Strasbourgeois live their lives. There’s a fantastic little bakery literally around the corner on Rue de la Musau – I’m talking proper croissants that sell out by 9 AM – and the tram stop is maybe three minutes away if you need to get somewhere quickly. The neighborhood gets genuinely quiet at night too, which is gold if you’re a light sleeper like me. During the day you’ll hear kids playing in the courtyards and the occasional delivery truck, but it’s that pleasant urban hum rather than the chaos you get closer to the center. Parking was surprisingly manageable for Strasbourg, though I’d still recommend the tram if you can swing it. The whole experience felt like I was staying in someone’s beautifully restored family home rather than a hotel, which I suppose is exactly what they were going for. That 9.1 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there – it’s the kind of place that does everything well without trying to be the fanciest option in town.
