Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about L’Or? It’s tucked away on Rue d’Or – literally “Gold Street” – and honestly, the name fits better than you’d expect. This isn’t some generic hotel room situation; it’s actually a proper Alsacian apartment that feels like you’re staying in someone’s thoughtfully curated home, just steps from Strasbourg’s old town center.
The location is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re far enough from the tourist chaos around the cathedral that you won’t hear groups of people wandering around at midnight, but close enough that you can walk to Petite France in about ten minutes. I mean, you’re basically in the sweet spot where locals actually live and work. The building itself has that classic Alsacian character – you know, those distinctive timber-framed details that make Strasbourg feel so different from the rest of France. Inside, they’ve managed to keep the authentic elements (exposed beams, original hardwood floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in a historic building) while making everything feel clean and modern. The kitchen is actually functional too, which – let’s be honest – is rare in most hotel setups.
What really sold me was the attention to small details that matter when you’re settling in somewhere for more than a night. There’s proper lighting for reading, not just those dim overhead fixtures that make you squint at your book. The wifi actually works throughout the space (tested it from the bedroom to the kitchen). And honestly, the whole place just feels… lived-in, in the best way possible. Like someone who actually understands what travelers need designed this space. The bathroom has decent water pressure and gets properly hot, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places mess that up. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of Strasbourg – it’s mostly street parking and you’ll want to grab a spot early in the evening if you’re driving – but that’s pretty standard for anywhere worth staying in the historic center. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s not perfect (the stairs are narrow and steep, typical for these old buildings), but it delivers on what it promises. You’re getting authentic Alsacian character without sacrificing comfort, and you’re positioned perfectly to explore Strasbourg like someone who actually lives there rather than just checking boxes on a tourist list.
Visitors often choose Strasbourg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent European capital.

Very good – Bartholemew from Australia – 12 July 2025 (8/10)
Location is close to so many attractions but in a quiet and peaceful street. Very old character which really fits the historic element of the city.
Cozy apartment with a lot of charm – Ekaterina from Germany – 13 June 2025 (8/10)
Very cozy apartment with a lot of charm. Looking over Alsatian roofs and even view of the Cathedral!
We forgot one bag in the apartment when we left and the staff was so nice to spot it and send it to us as a parcel, very professional.
What could be improved: The apartment in on the last floor of an older house and there is no elevator. My mother in law, who is over 70, had some difficulties climbing up and down every day. Also one of the bedrooms is in the gallery, so again stairs. No problem for fit people, but for elderly and kids should be clear, that there is no elevator.Christmas Market stay – Alex from United Kingdom – 22 December 2024 (8/10)
Location was wonderful, very good access to city centre for the markets. Very beautiful flat, well appointed. Fully stocked kitchen, well equipped shower room, and heating worked well. Quiet and peaceful, too.
What could be improved: Didn't realise that the apartment was on the third floor without a lift – easy for me but for some it might be a struggle, especially with small children and luggage.
To collect the keys you need to go to a laundrette a few minutes away. Again, with luggage/children this is a bit inconvenient.Very good – Françoise from France – 23 July 2025 (8/10)
Superb – Michela from Italy – 6 January 2025 (9/10)
Molto carino e cucina ben attrezzata. Ottima vacanza in famiglia.
L’allo – Michela from Italy – 30 December 2024 (8/10)
What could be improved: I letti a nostro avviso molto scomodiUn appartement au cœur de la ville mais au calme… – Corine from France – 24 August 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: Rien.Very good – Greta from Switzerland – 22 August 2024 (8/10)
What could be improved: La pulizia poteva essere migliore.Ótima localização, mas para o preço o anfitrião tem obrigação de prestar um serviço MUITO melhor. – Victor from Portugal – 20 March 2025 (7/10)
Ótima localização, boa infraestrutura, boa decoração e bom aquecimento do apartamento.
What could be improved: Die Toilette ist wirklich sehr eng. Selbst für normalgroße Menschen.
