You know what caught me off guard about Les Maraichers? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there – it means “market gardeners” in French, and this little 3-star gem sits right in the heart of what used to be Strasbourg’s gardening district. I mean, Rue des Jardiniers literally translates to “gardeners’ street,” so there’s your first clue that someone put thought into the location. The building itself has that understated Alsatian charm – not flashy, but honestly, that’s exactly what works in this part of Strasbourg.

The thing is, most tourists get stuck around the cathedral area (which, don’t get me wrong, is gorgeous), but staying here puts you in an actual neighborhood where locals live and work. You’re maybe a 12-minute walk to Petite France – and I timed it because I’m weird like that – but you’re also close enough to the covered markets that you can hear the early morning deliveries if you’re a light sleeper. Actually, I found those sounds oddly comforting, like you’re part of the city’s daily rhythm instead of just observing it. The rooms are clean and well-maintained (it’s got a 9 rating for a reason), though don’t expect luxury spa vibes – this is more about solid comfort and being where the action is without paying cathedral-district prices.

What really sold me on this place was the staff’s genuine knowledge of the area. They didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map; they actually marked specific boulangeries and told me which tram stops to avoid during rush hour. Plus, parking in Strasbourg can be absolutely brutal, but they know the neighborhood parking tricks that’ll save you from circling blocks endlessly. The breakfast setup is nothing fancy – typical continental spread – but the coffee’s actually decent, and you can sit by the windows watching the neighborhood wake up. Honestly, there’s something to be said for a hotel that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone but just does its job really well in a spot that feels authentically Strasbourg rather than tourist-bubble Strasbourg.

  The studio is very conveniently located near the CoE, where I attended a two-day event. I was able to walk there each day, which was a big plus.   What could be improved: I would have liked and I strongly recommend to the host that at least one window to have a protective net against mosquitos (moustiquaire).
  Without it, for fear of mosquitos, we couldn’t open the windows of the room at the second floor, and it was too hot and stuffed.

  What could be improved: Ce studio est très bien aménagé, propre, avec une jolie décoration en plus. Il se trouve dans un cadre exceptionnel avec tout le transport en commun pour accéder facilement au centre.
