Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to les Jardiniers on Rue des Jardiniers – I mean, the street’s literally named after gardeners, which should’ve been my first clue about what kind of neighborhood this is. It’s tucked into one of those quiet residential pockets in Strasbourg where actual locals live, maybe a 12-minute walk from the cathedral but worlds away from the tourist chaos. The building itself has that understated Alsatian charm – not trying too hard, just solid stonework and flower boxes that look like someone actually tends to them. When I checked in, the desk clerk spoke to me in French first (always a good sign), then switched seamlessly to English when she heard my accent. No corporate script, just genuine helpfulness.

What really won me over was how the place feels lived-in rather than staged. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Europe, after all – but they’re thoughtfully laid out with those details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere. Like, the bathroom lighting is bright enough to apply makeup or shave properly, and there are enough outlets near the bed that you don’t have to choose between charging your phone and having a bedside lamp. The walls are thick enough that I never heard my neighbors, which honestly surprised me for a 3-star place. The breakfast room overlooks a small courtyard garden (ah, the gardener connection!), and in the mornings you can hear birds instead of traffic – pretty rare when you’re still within walking distance of everything that matters in Strasbourg.

I actually ended up extending my stay an extra night because I liked the rhythm of the neighborhood so much. There’s a boulangerie two blocks down on Rue du Faubourg de Pierre where locals queue up every morning, and the tram stop at Porte de l’Hôpital is close enough to reach the main sights easily but far enough that you’re not dealing with crowds of day-trippers stumbling around at all hours. The hotel staff gave me honest recommendations too – not just the obvious tourist spots but places like the covered market on Saturday mornings and this little wine bar near Place du Marché aux Poissons that I never would’ve found on my own. Sure, you won’t get a concierge or room service here, but you will get that sweet spot of comfort, location, and authenticity that’s getting harder to find. For the price point and that 8.8 rating, it makes total sense – this is the kind of place that does the basics really well without any unnecessary fuss.

Reviews

  • Charming garden apartment, great location, all one needs. – Heather from Canada – 27 September 2023 (10/10)

Lovely village location – I'd liked to have stayed longer to explore it all. Convenient tram access to Strasbourg.
Nice studio apt, well equipped kitchen. Garage for bikes overnight. Charming hostess.

What could be improved: As usual, flat European pillows and only one each. But that just comes with the territory I guess.

  • Very good – Judit from Belgium – 10 May 2025 (8/10)

Big, sunny room with comfortable bed, 3 minutes form the E tram.

  • I suggest it and for sure, I'll choose it again during my next stay in Strasbourg. – Anonymous from Luxembourg – 10 July 2025 (9/10)

    All Good!!!

What could be improved: No problem.

  • Exceptional – Diana from France – 21 July 2025 (10/10)

  • Superb – Michel from Democratic Republic of Congo – 26 June 2025 (9/10)

    L'emplacement super

What could be improved: Manque de la machine à laver

Ali from Azerbaijan – 23 June 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: Le logement correspondait à notre recherche et nos besoins pour ce court séjour.

  • Une adresse à garder – Isabelle from France – 26 February 2024 (9/10)
