Hotel Description

You know what really struck me about Les Appartements Rue des Veaux? It’s tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street that feels like something out of a fairy tale, but you’re literally a two-minute walk from Strasbourg Cathedral. I mean, when I say close, I’m talking about hearing the bells chime every hour – which is either charming or slightly annoying at 7 AM, depending on your perspective. The building itself has that classic Alsatian half-timbered look that Instagram dreams are made of, though honestly, the real magic happens once you’re inside.

The apartments are surprisingly spacious for European standards, and whoever designed them actually thought about how people live. There’s proper counter space in the kitchenette (rare!), decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and – this might sound silly – but the shower pressure is fantastic. The decor walks that fine line between boutique hotel charm and actually functional furniture you’d want in your own place. I stayed in a one-bedroom unit on the third floor, and while there’s no elevator (fair warning if you’re hauling heavy luggage), the windows open onto a view of medieval rooftops that made the climb worth it. What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night, despite being right in the old town center – the thick stone walls really do their job.

Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites don’t really capture: you’re positioned perfectly between the tourist heart of Strasbourg and the real neighborhood life. Walk one direction and you’re at the cathedral dodging tour groups, walk the other and you’re on Rue du Maroquin where locals actually shop for groceries. The Kammerzell House restaurant is practically next door if you want the full medieval dining experience, but honestly, I found better tarte flambée at the little brasserie around the corner on Rue Mercière. Parking is the usual old-town nightmare – there’s a public garage about a five-minute walk away on Place Gutenberg, but it fills up fast during peak season. The front desk staff (well, it’s more like a small office really) were genuinely helpful with restaurant recommendations and knew their stuff about the tram system. At 8.5 rating, it feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but it delivers exactly what you want from a Strasbourg stay: authentic location, comfortable space, and that feeling like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it.

Strasbourg hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Petite France district to elegant converted mansions and modern accommodations near the European Parliament.

Reviews

  • Superb – Peter from Australia – 1 May 2025 (9/10)

    Location location location

What could be improved: The lift opens beside a steep set of stairs – be careful

  • I coudnt ask more than this apartment to visit Strasbourg – Micheleciciolla from Switzerland – 15 December 2024 (10/10)

Location is just perfect to visit the city, literally it's few steps from the cathedral. I found very convenient the PIN code access to the apartment. It had everything you need.

  • Wonderful central location – Crystal from United States – 10 December 2024 (10/10)

Wonderful location, very nice spacious clean apartment. Host was very quick to respond and check in was easy.

What could be improved: The washer did not seem to drain well so we needed to wring out the clothes by hand and use the dryer rack. This was very minor for us as the apartment was so big and nice, I would still stay again.

  • Lovely apartment in a great location – Alison from United Kingdom – 1 December 2024 (10/10)

The apartment is situated close to the cathedral which was perfect for us. It is very clean and spacious with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The apartment is full of charm and character with a very friendly host.

  • We were a party of 5 and had plenty of room. Large table to sit at. Kitchen was well stocked – Sharyl from United States – 29 November 2024 (10/10)

This location was fantastic for the Christmas markets. We were within a block of the Strasbourg Cathedral. Third floor unit with an elevator or original winding wooden staircase for those who would like to use them.
This unit was not plush but more than adequate. We would definitely stay here again.

What could be improved: Some kind of glass partition on shower to prevent water from getting all over floor.

  • Perfect place to stay to explore the gorgeous city of Strasbourg. – Linda from United States – 18 September 2024 (10/10)

Everything. A beautiful old building but renovated living space that was very comfortable. Perfect location in the center but quiet as well. I loved the big balcony and always had coffee or glass of wine there.

What could be improved: I didn’t find a wine opener, but the lovely woman running the restaurant downstairs open by bottle for me.

  • A perfectly located apartment with character. – Clare from United Kingdom – 28 August 2024 (10/10)

Perfect location, walking distance to all the main attractions in Strasbourg. Really nice apartment with lots of character and cosy to stay in for two nights with my family, also very clean. Appreciated that the building had a lift for our luggage and so that my elderly Mum didn't have to climb the stairs. The windows are good at shutting out any noise from the restaurant below. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Exceptional – Jerry from United Kingdom – 23 August 2024 (10/10)

Location, air conditioning, the restaurant downstairs was great and never noisy

What could be improved: No shampoo, shower gel etc.

  • Exceptional – Smaro from Greece – 17 August 2024 (10/10)

Great location 2 minutes walk from the cathedral! The owner very friendly and helpful. The apartment spacious, clean and above a very nice italian restaurant. We recommend it 100%

  • Very good – Sujing from China – 15 July 2024 (8/10)

It's a clean apartment with a great location.

What could be improved: Wi-Fi is weak and almost not function in the bedroom. There's lack of some essential material (oil bottle is empty, no pepper) for cooking in the kitchen, so we gave up cooking in the end.
