Hotel Description

You know what’s funny about Strasbourg? Everyone talks about the touristy spots, but the real magic happens when you’re actually living among them – and that’s exactly what you get at Les appartements Place de la Cathédrale. I mean, the name pretty much gives it away, but standing on that cobblestone square at 7 AM with your coffee, watching the cathedral emerge from the morning mist while actual locals hurry past to work… it’s something else entirely.

These aren’t your typical hotel rooms – they’re proper apartments, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to settle into Strasbourg’s rhythm. The space feels authentically Alsatian (you’ll notice it in the architectural details), but someone clearly thought through what modern travelers actually need. I loved having a real kitchen because, let’s be honest, you can only eat so much choucroute before you crave something simple. Plus, there’s something oddly satisfying about picking up groceries from the little market on Rue Mercière and cooking while listening to the cathedral bells mark the hours. The apartments manage to feel both historic and livable – no small feat in a building that’s probably seen a few centuries come and go.

What really struck me was how the location works in practice, not just on paper. Sure, you’re literally steps from the cathedral (I counted – it’s about thirty seconds), but you’re also perfectly positioned for everything else that matters. The Petite France district is an easy ten-minute walk through streets that actually feel residential, not like a theme park. When friends visited, we’d grab wine and cheese from the fromagerie around the corner on Rue des Orfèvres – the owner there knows his stuff and doesn’t mind chatting with tourists who make an effort in French. The tram stops right at Homme de Fer, maybe five minutes away, so getting to the European Quarter or the train station is painless. And here’s something nobody mentions in typical hotel reviews – the square gets lively during evening hours but settles down surprisingly well by 10 PM, so you’re not dealing with party noise all night. Parking can be tricky in this part of the old town (honestly, just use the Gutenberg garage), but once you’re settled in, you won’t need a car anyway. The whole experience feels less like staying in tourist accommodation and more like borrowing a local friend’s incredibly well-located apartment – which, when you think about it, is probably the best way to experience a city like Strasbourg.

  • Exceptional – Jack from United States – 22 July 2025 (10/10)

Easy check-in with people meeting us at the apartment to hand over the keys and show us around the apartment. Place was very clean and in an amazing location right next to the breathtaking Strasbourg Cathedral. The cost per night in July were great value for money considering we had 2 families.

  • Excellent – Ihor from Canada – 17 July 2025 (10/10)

View, hospitality, clean, easy access, price .

  • Wonderful place to stay during our visit to Strasbourg. – Edwin from United States – 26 June 2025 (10/10)

Excellent location with windows overlooking the Strasbourg Cathedral. Very functional and recently updated apartment for two adults and a child. Our host took extra effort to meet us upon arrival and to provide extra information on the property and surrounding restaurants and attractions.

What could be improved: The cathedral square is a center of activity. During our stay, there was a music festival and noise in the square from bands, singing, etc., that went on well into the evening. This was to be expected with the location, so was not a problem for us (we enjoyed the music), but if you would like a quieter stay it might be important to check the activities calendar for Strasbourg.

  • A perfect apartment. – David from Australia – 13 June 2025 (10/10)

The apartment is great. Well appointed and right in the heart of the old town with views over the cathedral.

  • Great Value in a Great Apartment – Moriarty from Ireland – 14 May 2025 (10/10)

This property was amazing. It was fully equipped with everything we needed. The host Frederic was fantastic, so accommodating to us and provided great communication. This apartment is beautiful inside and the view of the Cathedral is incredible. It is great value for money. I would really recommend this apartment. We will definitely be back to this fantastic apartment. Thank you Frederic!

What could be improved: Nothing – it was absolutely perfect.

  • Superb – Krishna from United States – 8 March 2025 (9/10)

    Perfect Location!!
Frédéric, the host, is fantastic and pays attention to guests.

What could be improved: The bedroom is tight and the bed wasn’t very comfortable. It would also help if the closet space was cleared up (used as a bit of storage).

  • Beautiful cathedral views in central Strasbourg! – Cofer from Switzerland – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

Beautiful views and a wonderful opportunity to see some higher parts of the cathedral. The apartment is well stocked and clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: It was a little small for our family of four with the sofa bed out but it worked fine for three nights. For the most part the area is very quiet but because it is by the square there was one night where people were playing loud music.

  • We loved it here and would stay again! – Jessica from United States – 9 December 2024 (10/10)

The location was amazing! Communication with the owners before and during our stay was easy and plentiful. in-person check in was so nice! Coffee/tea included—thank you! Washer AND dryer! Full refrigerator. Very spacious!

What could be improved: The small square pillows and the bed in the far left bedroom (the pull out sofa in the middle bedroom was more comfortable!)

  • Right in the heart of the city with magnificent views of the cathedral – Andrew from United Kingdom – 8 December 2024 (10/10)

Location was amazing and so lovely to wake up to a breathtaking view of the majestic cathedral and the excitement of the Christmas markets. The flat is small but functional and perfectly equipped. The owner is very kind and attentive

What could be improved: That we had to leave
