Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Les Appartements du Renard? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re standing on Rue du Renard Prêchant – this little cobblestone street in the heart of Strasbourg’s old town has this almost fairy-tale quality that totally matches the “fox” theme. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the cathedral (and trust me, you’ll hear those bells), but somehow this narrow street feels tucked away from all the tourist chaos. The building itself is one of those classic Alsatian numbers with the timber framing, though they’ve clearly put some serious money into renovating it. Check-in was refreshingly smooth – none of that awkward key-juggling you sometimes get with apartment-style places.

What really won me over, honestly, was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between hotel comfort and apartment practicality. The units actually feel like someone’s stylish Strasbourg pied-à-terre, not some corporate housing experiment. Full kitchens that you’d actually want to use (the local markets are incredible, by the way), but also proper hotel-quality linens and that level of cleanliness that lets you relax completely. The Wi-Fi works everywhere – I tested it because, well, you have to these days. Parking’s the usual Strasbourg nightmare, but they’ll point you toward the Place Gutenberg garage, which is your best bet anyway. Fair warning though: if you’re here during the Christmas market season, this whole area gets absolutely mobbed, but that’s kind of the point, right?

Here’s the thing about staying in this part of Strasbourg – you’re genuinely living like a local, just with much better thread counts. I could walk to Maison Kammerzell for dinner (overpriced but worth it once), grab morning coffee at that little place on Rue des Orfèvres, and still be back before the tour groups really got going. The 8.9 rating makes total sense when you factor in that you’re getting apartment space and privacy in a location where most places are either tiny hotel rooms or vacation rentals that haven’t been updated since the ’90s. Sure, it’s not cheap, but honestly? For a four-star experience right in the cathedral quarter, with actual space to spread out and the option to cook your own meals, it feels pretty reasonable. The staff clearly knows their stuff too – they gave me restaurant recommendations that were spot-on and steered me away from a couple of tourist traps I definitely would have fallen for.

    -The location is very central

  • Really excellent apartment! – Virginia from United Kingdom – 13 April 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location, close to the city and the river. Lots to see and do, with good transport and cafes, restaurants etc close by. Spacious, warm and comfortable flat with good facilities. The only slight issue we had was needing to keep signing into the WiFi. The owner's info said it would be necessary every 24 hr but it was more frequent than that. Would also have been good to have streaming services such as Netflix on the TV. But all in all, a great place and we hope to go back.

  • Perfect place for extended stays near historic city center. Would highly recommend. Great host! – James from United States – 27 March 2025 (10/10)

Location was excellent, close enough to walk to city center. Historic building but with very clean, modern appointments, and tasteful interiors. Well stocked kitchen, great overall for extended stays. Secure and safe offsite parking. Great and responsive host.

What could be improved: Like all places in city center, parking is offsite but secure.

  • Excellent! – Cosmin from Romania – 26 February 2025 (10/10)

Location very near to Center of Strasbourg , all the attractions, the Cathedral, the European Parliament

  • I would recommend this accomodation. – Rebecca from Australia – 21 December 2024 (8/10)

    Great location; clean and spacious.

What could be improved: The double fold out bed was very squeaky. The revellers in the pub downstairs were also noisy into the early hours (but it was Christmas 😊)

  • Would stay there again. – Greg from Australia – 17 December 2024 (9/10)

The apartment was very clean and tidy and quite spacious.

What could be improved: Unfortunately it was a long walk from the train station.
