Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Le Schiffslitt? The name itself – it’s actually a reference to those old timber rafts that used to float down the Rhine, which makes perfect sense once you see where this place sits. Right on Place des Bateliers, literally “Boatmen’s Square,” you’re basically staying where Strasbourg’s river merchants used to do business centuries ago. The hotel itself is tucked into one of those narrow Alsatian buildings that somehow feels both cramped and cozy at the same time, and honestly, the 3-star rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be fancy, just solid and well-placed.
The location is really the star here, though. I mean, you can walk to the cathedral in maybe eight minutes, and the Petite France district (you know, the touristy bit with all the half-timbered houses) is literally around the corner. But here’s what I really appreciated – you’re close enough to everything that matters, but Place des Bateliers itself is actually pretty quiet, especially at night when the day-trippers have cleared out. The Ill River is right there, and if you get a room facing the water, you’ll hear it gently moving past, which is surprisingly soothing. Parking can be a bit of a headache in this part of town – there’s street parking nearby, but it fills up fast, especially during the Christmas market season when Strasbourg goes absolutely mad with visitors.
The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect from a solid mid-range place in the historic center. Nothing revolutionary, but clean and functional, with that slightly quirky European hotel vibe where the bathroom might be smaller than your closet back home, but somehow it all works. The 7.6 rating seems fair – I’ve definitely stayed in worse places for more money, particularly in city centers like this. What I really liked was how the staff actually knew the neighborhood; when I asked about good spots for dinner that weren’t total tourist traps, they pointed me toward Rue du Maroquin, just a few blocks over, where locals actually eat. The breakfast was decent enough, though nothing to write home about – but honestly, when you’re this close to proper Alsatian bakeries, why would you spend much time in the hotel dining room anyway? If you’re looking for somewhere that puts you right in the heart of old Strasbourg without breaking the bank, and you don’t need marble bathrooms or a concierge in a fancy uniform, this place does the job really well.

Location and conditions are great!
Perfect spot for a night or two in order to experience Le Pettite France just like a local. Close to all Tramway areas – John from United States – 22 December 2023 (10/10)
The location CANNOT be beat!! You are a stones throw from Le Petite France and all the stores, tours, sights you want.
Entry to the property was clearly detailed and was incredibly easy. The apartment is very bare bones, but not dissimilar to what its photos look like on the listing. The location was ideal – Barbara from United States – 5 December 2023 (6/10)
The location of the property was ideal, just across the way from the old town, close to the Christmas markets, which was one of our main reasons for traveling. We found it easy to get around and very convenient to restaurants and shopping.
What could be improved: When we arrived at the Property, the heat was turned down to 7°C, and all the shutters were closed. The space was dark and cold and not very welcoming. there were only sheer curtains on the bedroom and living room windows so we did not feel comfortable opening the shutters because there was no privacy so we were unable to see outside except in the kitchen. There were no instructions on how to use any of the appliances. There were only three mismatched, older towels, no hand towels or kitchen towel, And very cheap linens. The linens for the pull out sofa smelled as if they had not been washed in some time. We did not realize there was no microwave, which was an inconvenience. There was only one roll of toilet paper for our four day stay and when we inquired where extras might be we were told that we only get one complementary role and have to buy any additional. Upon departure we were instructed to dispose of all recycling and trash, but after 10 minutes of walking around inside and outside, I could find no receptacles, and even after communicating with the host could never find where we were supposed to put them.Très bon séjour – Carole from France – 22 April 2025 (8/10)

Bouilloire pleine de calcaireExceptional – Alessandro from Italy – 19 December 2024 (10/10)
Pleasant – Gwénaël from France – 1 December 2024 (6/10)
Exceptional – Leão from France – 27 February 2024 (10/10)
Apartamento confortável, bem localizado. Local tranquilo e seguro. Anfitrião atencioso e responde as mensagens rapidamente.
Bel appartement mais si manique vous abstenir – Pietra from France – 12 May 2024 (6/10)
L emplacement
