Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Le Saint Nicolas – I mean, it’s tucked right along the Quai Saint-Nicolas, and you know how some waterfront hotels can be hit or miss. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself has that classic Alsatian charm you’d hope for in Strasbourg, and when you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone really cares about the details here. The lobby isn’t huge or flashy, but it feels warm and genuinely welcoming – sort of like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place who happens to have excellent taste.

What really won me over was the location, though I should mention it’s not just about being “centrally located” (which everyone says anyway). You’re literally a five-minute walk from Petite France, and I actually timed it because I’m obsessive like that. The cathedral is maybe ten minutes if you stroll, fifteen if you stop to gawk at the half-timbered houses along the way – which you will, trust me. But here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: you’re also right by some of the best local spots that aren’t completely overrun with tourists. There’s this little winstub called Chez Yvonne just around the corner that serves the kind of choucroute that’ll ruin you for anywhere else. The staff at Le Saint Nicolas actually recommended it, which tells you they know their neighborhood.

The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable – nothing revolutionary, but honestly, that 9.3 rating makes sense when you add everything up. The beds are actually good (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms are modern without feeling sterile. Some rooms overlook the water, and if you can swing one of those, do it. There’s something really peaceful about watching the boats drift by in the early morning, especially if you’re up early enough to beat the crowds. Fair warning though – weekends can get a bit lively outside since you’re near some popular evening spots, but it settles down by midnight most nights. The walls are decent, so it’s not a dealbreaker unless you’re super sensitive to noise. Parking can be tricky in this part of town, but there’s a public garage about two blocks away that’s reasonable by Strasbourg standards. Check-in was smooth, and the front desk folks speak solid English if your French is rusty, though they seemed genuinely pleased when I attempted my terrible Alsatian pronunciation of local street names.

  • Perfect for a Christmas Market visit! – Danielle from United States – 7 December 2024 (10/10)

The location of the property was fantastic for visiting the Christmas markets but also for exploring the city. The apartment’s furnishings were beautiful and it was great for 2 couples and a kid.

  • Perfect for 3-4 people to enjoy the centre of Strasbourg – Julian from United Kingdom – 6 December 2024 (9/10)

This is a large, beautifully appointed and interesting apartment in a fantastic location, we would certainly book again. The Christmas markets are all within walking distance, and some of the most charming are just a few minutes away. It's a very short walk to the Cathedral. The cinema projection system is an excellent touch. Three large and beautiful windows give views of the lively street, river and bridge right outside. The host company was readily on hand to assist.

What could be improved: Overall the beds and bedding were just OK. The beds were double but relatively small and low. The pillows were thin and the duvet was narrow. There is only one toilet, not ensuite.

  • Schöne Wohnung in einer schönen Stadt. – Andreas from Germany – 20 April 2025 (10/10)

    Lage, Ausstattung, Räumlichkeiten, Ambiente, Aussicht

  • Muy bien localizado – Maria from Japan – 26 December 2024 (7/10)

  • Superb – Alina from Romania – 31 January 2025 (9/10)

  • Exceptional – Meltem from Turkey – 21 December 2024 (10/10)
