Hotel Description
You know what hit me first when I walked into Le Petit Zix? The smell of old wood and that particular kind of quiet you only get in these converted Strasbourg townhouses. I mean, the place sits right on Rue du Fossé-des-Tanneurs – which literally translates to “tanners’ moat street” if you’re curious – and honestly, you can feel centuries of history in the walls. The entrance is sort of tucked away, which I actually loved because it meant dodging the crowds that swarm around the main Petite France tourist drags just a block over.
The rooms are properly cozy (not just marketing-speak cozy), with these thick stone walls that keep things whisper-quiet even though you’re basically in the heart of everything. What really got me was the terrace situation – and this is where the name makes total sense. It’s not some grand rooftop affair, but rather this intimate little outdoor space where you can actually breathe and watch the neighborhood wake up with coffee in hand. The morning light hits those half-timbered houses across the way just right, especially in late spring when the window boxes start blooming. Fair warning though: the stairs are narrow and steep, typical for these old buildings, so pack light if you can.
Here’s the thing about the location that guidebooks won’t tell you – you’re close enough to walk to the cathedral in about eight minutes, but far enough from the main squares that you won’t hear drunk tourists singing at 2 AM. The little streets around here have actual bakeries where locals shop (try the one on Rue des Moulins), and there’s this wine bar called Le Tire-Bouchon literally around the corner that stays open late if you want something low-key. Parking is honestly a nightmare like everywhere in Petite France, but there’s a public garage about a five-minute walk away on Rue du Maire Kuss – just factor that into your budget because it’s not cheap. The staff at Le Petit Zix actually gave me solid directions instead of just shrugging, which I appreciated. Check-in was smooth, no fuss, and they spoke English well enough though a bit of French goes a long way. The 9.7 rating makes sense when you realize this place delivers exactly what it promises – no pretense, just a genuinely comfortable base in one of Europe’s most beautiful neighborhoods. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll find yourself lingering over breakfast just because the whole experience feels authentic rather than manufactured for tourists.

Reviews
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the apartment. The location is excellent. We would stay there again – Jane from United States – 6 May 2025 (9/10)
Location is GREAT! Close to the river, very quiet, and just a short walk to the train station. (It's not exactly fun to wheel suitcases over the cobble stones though!) It was easy to enter the outer door and the apartment door because we only had to use codes. We would stay there again.
What could be improved: We found that the lighting in the apartment was not very good. It was hard to read once it got dark. The elevator is very slow but that was not a major concern,A perfect location, a beautiful apartment. Jean-Marie and family were very helpful and accommodating. – Marc from United Kingdom – 28 November 2024 (10/10)
