Hotel Description

You know what hits you first when you walk into Le Nid de l’Ill? It’s actually the light – these duplex apartments have this amazing way of catching the afternoon sun that makes the whole place feel warm and lived-in, not like some sterile hotel room. I mean, the name literally translates to “The Nest of the Ill River,” and honestly, that’s exactly what it feels like – this cozy little hideaway tucked right into the heart of Petite France.

The location is pretty incredible, and I’m not just saying that because it sounds good. You’re literally on Rue du Bain-aux-Plantes, which is one of those narrow cobblestone streets that tourists walk down during the day taking photos of the half-timbered houses, but at night it gets beautifully quiet. The duplex setup means you’ve got actual space to spread out – downstairs living area where you can actually cook a proper meal (the kitchen is surprisingly well-equipped), and upstairs sleeping quarters that feel separate enough that you’re not living on top of your luggage. The whole cozy factor is real here; they’ve managed to blend that traditional Alsatian charm with modern touches that actually work instead of feeling forced.

What I really appreciate is how they’ve thought about the practical stuff that other places miss. The soundproofing is solid – important when you’re in the old town where delivery trucks start rumbling around 7 AM. Parking can be tricky in this area (honestly, most of central Strasbourg is a bit of a puzzle for cars), but they’ll give you the real scoop on where to leave your car without getting a ticket. The 8.6 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not trying to be some luxury palace, but everything works well and feels thoughtfully put together. You’re a five-minute walk from the cathedral, maybe three minutes to the covered bridges, and there’s this little boulangerie around the corner on Rue des Dentelles that locals actually go to, not just tourists. During Christmas market season (which, let’s be honest, is when most people visit Strasbourg), you’re close enough to walk to everything but far enough that you’re not dealing with the constant crowds right outside your door. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying in for breakfast because the space feels like home, then wandering out to explore knowing you’ve got somewhere genuinely comfortable to come back to.

Reviews

  • Comfortable accommodation in historic area – Sarah from Australia – 8 July 2025 (8/10)

Historic location in fascinating area of city, size of accommodation with upstairs bedroom, well equipped and beds that are comfortable. Also, great communication with agent.

What could be improved: Staircase was a bit hard to navigate with large bags; otherwise all was good

  • A very enjoyable stay in a central, well equipped and roomy appartment – Shirley from New Zealand – 3 July 2025 (9/10)

This was a lovely appartment with excellent facilities – kitchen, washing machine, dryer etc. Very clean and really handy to everything. We ran out of dish washing liquid and contacted the email, it was replaced straight away. Very quick replies to queries. My only suggestion might be to perhaps supply some instructions for how to use the washing machine and dryer although we figured it out. Would not hesitate to recommend it.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend if you're seeking some cozy ambience in Strasbourg! – Emme from United States – 7 January 2025 (10/10)

Such a charming and cozy and well-kept property. Stayed here during the holiday season and what a treat it was to feel like you're returning to the comforts of home after long days of exploring. Location was perfect. Communication with property management company was easy, and all instructions for check-in & departure were clear with no issues. Property is equipped with many basics to suit your needs.

What could be improved: Had an issue with the Wi-fi but given that they responded quickly to communication, someone was sent out to fix the issue promptly. Room with shower stall & sink is quite small.

  • Wouldn’t consider any other place in Strasbourg! – Leo from United States – 4 January 2025 (10/10)

Perfect location. Close enough but not busy !

What could be improved: WiFi didn’t work for us but gave us the opportunity to u plug for awhile

  • Cute apartment in a gorgeous location! – Christopher from Australia – 20 December 2024 (9/10)

Amazing location, beautiful decor and nice quirky building.

What could be improved: The entry looked suspicious at first, especially since we arrived at night, but once inside and up three narrow spiraling flights of stairs with our luggage we fell in love with this place!

  • Superb – Sergii from France – 9 December 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: WiFi doesn’t work
Difficult to find. Need more certain instructions

  • Beautiful romantic place with excellent location. – Mira from Israel – 4 November 2024 (9/10)

Location was fantastic. The place is beautiful and nicely equipped. Very easy to get in and check out. Very clean.

What could be improved: We would have liked more hot water for the shower and it was difficult to reach the team when we had an urgent question.

  • Perfect location, good value of money. – Yang from Finland – 29 October 2024 (9/10)

The location is amazing, just in front of the petit France.

What could be improved: We don't understand how the hot water works but on the third night we've got no hot water.

  • We loved the flat–both the location and the space and decor. – John from United States – 15 October 2024 (10/10)

The Nest is a beautiful apartment with a lovely view from the bedroom and salon. We did not expect to have so much space! It was lovely to come back to the flat after long days of exploring and enjoy the cleanliness and quiet.

What could be improved: Nothing, but travelers should be aware that the flat is on the top two floors of the building, and that the stairway up to the bedroom from the living and dining area is steep–which might be tough for some.

  • Exceptional – Serrena from France – 11 October 2024 (10/10)

    – The decoration of the duplex was very nice and comfy. We felt at home! The apartment was clean.
    – The location of the apartment was perfect. In La Petite France district.
    – The agency was quick to answer.

What could be improved: – Personal opinion: the pillows were too hard.
    – The bathroom was a bit too narrow.
    – The whole process on an external website and the duplication of the notifications was cumbersome.
