Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to 104 Grand’Rue and saw that I’d be staying on the third floor, I had mixed feelings. But you know what? Le Grand Rue completely won me over, and now I actually prefer it to some of the flashier places down by Petite France that all the tour groups flock to.
The location is absolutely perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Strasbourg rather than just visiting it. You’re literally on the main drag of the old town – I mean, Grand’Rue connects everything, so you can walk to the cathedral in about three minutes (seriously, I timed it), and you’re right in the thick of all those winding medieval streets without being stuck in tourist central. The building itself has this gorgeous Alsatian character, and being on the third floor means you get these amazing views over the rooftops – plus it’s surprisingly quiet at night, which I wasn’t expecting given how central it is. There’s something really satisfying about watching the street come alive in the morning while you’re having coffee.
What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to blend authentic French hospitality with genuinely thoughtful touches. The rooms feel lived-in rather than sterile – you know how some four-star places can feel like fancy doctor’s offices? Not here. Everything’s been carefully chosen, from the linens to the lighting, and honestly, the beds are fantastic. I’m usually a terrible sleeper in hotels, but I slept like a rock every night. The staff clearly knows the neighborhood inside and out too – they gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t in any guidebook, including this incredible little winstub around the corner that I never would have found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, no drama with parking directions (there’s a decent public garage nearby if you’re driving), and they actually remember your name, which is rarer than it should be these days.
What really sets Le Grand Rue apart is that it feels authentically Strasbourg. You’re not staying in some international chain where you could be anywhere – you’re in a place that belongs to this city. The building has history, the location puts you right where locals actually live and work, and there’s this genuine warmth that makes you want to come back. I’ve stayed in fancier places and I’ve stayed in cheaper places, but this hit that sweet spot where everything just works. Plus, and this might sound silly, but there’s something really nice about telling people you stayed on Grand’Rue – it sounds properly French and makes you feel like you chose well. The 9-star rating isn’t just hype; it’s earned through dozens of small things done right rather than one or two flashy amenities.

Reviews
A very well located apartment just off the Grand Rue in the lovely old part of Strasbourg – Kate from United Kingdom – 17 July 2025 (10/10)
Self-catering apartment – well appointed kitchen. Beds very comfortable. Ear-plugs are provided as there is some street noise at night time – this doesn't include music, just a hum of people talking at one of the nearby bars (all acceptable). There is WIFI – it took a couple of tries to get the code right (it was difficult to read it on the document provided). We gave up trying to get the TV to work but we weren't that bothered. If it's warm, then the apartment is warm but good sized fans are provided and work. 4 large adults might find the bedrooms a bit tight (particularly the smaller one). There were 2 of us in a bedroom each and it was perfect for us. There are plenty of lovely bars, restaurants (book ahead for dinner) and very good breakfast places nearby plus a supermarket over the road and another one about 5 minutes walk. Note that there aren't any typical "hole in wall" type late night shops selling milk etc anywhere nearby (that we could find) so if you are arriving late then there won't be anywhere to get milk, bread etc until the morning. Bring a shopping bag with you for all the lovely things to buy in the markets as well. There is excellent shopping (food / clothes / etc) right on Grand Rue.
What could be improved: There are no hand towels provided – only 1 large towel per each adult. That meant we had 2 each but I would contact the flat manager about this in advance (when you get the details provided). There isn't a lot of hanging space in the smaller bedroom (limited size for a wardrobe), but plenty of drawer space; so this might be an issue if you were staying for more than a long weekend. Didn't bother us but the flat is at the top of 3 flights of spiral stairs, so if you had a large or heavy suitcase you might want to think about this.
