Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Le Carré des oiseaux? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – I mean, you really do hear birds chirping from the little courtyard, which honestly feels like a minor miracle when you’re staying right in the heart of Strasbourg. The hotel sits on Rue des Combattants Africains, and while that might not ring a bell if you’re not familiar with the city, it’s actually perfectly positioned. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the cathedral (trust me, you’ll want to see it lit up at night), but far enough from the main tourist drag that you won’t deal with those crowds of people wheeling suitcases over cobblestones at all hours.

The building itself has this understated elegance that feels very… well, very Strasbourg, if that makes sense. It’s not trying too hard to be boutique-y, but there’s real attention to detail everywhere. The lobby smells faintly of lavender – not in an overwhelming spa way, just clean and welcoming. Check-in was refreshingly smooth, and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out. When I asked about parking (because let’s be honest, driving in Strasbourg’s old town is a bit of a nightmare), they directed me to a spot that locals use, not just the obvious expensive garage everyone tells tourists about. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place – comfortable beds, good water pressure, windows that actually open properly. I stayed during late spring, and the street noise was practically nonexistent, which surprised me given how central everything is.

Here’s the thing though – what really sets this place apart is how it feels like it belongs in the neighborhood rather than being dropped into it. You’ll see locals grabbing coffee at the café around the corner, not just hotel guests looking lost with their maps out. The 8.9 rating honestly feels about right – it’s not perfect (the WiFi got a bit spotty on the third floor, and breakfast ends a bit early if you’re planning to sleep in), but it delivers on what matters. If you’re the type who wants to actually experience Strasbourg rather than just tick off the major sights, this is your spot. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to Petite France when the lighting is perfect for photos, but you won’t be surrounded by tour groups when you step outside your hotel door each morning.

Early hotels booking in Strasbourg is essential during major events like the Christmas Market, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city’s renowned festive atmosphere and Gothic architecture.

  • An excellent apartment in Strasbourg. – Ole from Denmark – 21 June 2024 (9/10)

We were kindly received by an elderly woman who showed us the facilities.
Everything was nice and the kitchen was ready for self-catering. The location is close to several tram lines and close to the suburb of Neudorf with a big market. A nice terrace and a small garden.

  • Would come again – Contes from Romania – 13 April 2024 (10/10)

It’s close to the city center, great facilities, nice neighborhood, the lady that gave us the key was very nice, safe parking in a building close to the location (5euro/day).

What could be improved: The noise from the kitchen ventilator

  • Our Stay In Strasbourg – Travellingyoungs from New Zealand – 11 August 2023 (10/10)

We were warmly welcomed and shown the apartment…a lovely spacious apartment, close to the city and with indoor and outdoor living, which we loved.

What could be improved: There was nothing we didn't like.

  • If the quilt cleaness issue will be solved, the place is definitely worth the price. – Wen-hsien from Denmark – 31 December 2022 (8/10)

The location is in a quiet residential area and not difficult to find. It is close to tram station so easy to reach city center. The rooms are cozy, large, well-quipped and contained a large balcony. We recieved warm reception.

What could be improved: The only drawback is unfortunately the quilt in the bedroom had a bad smell, and this significantly impaired the sleep quality.
