Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Strasbourg over the years, and Le 23 honestly surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked into this slightly gritty but totally authentic part of town on Faubourg-de-Saverne – you know, where actual Strasbourgeois live and work, not just the postcard-perfect petite France area that everyone photographs. Don’t get me wrong, you’re still only a fifteen-minute walk to the cathedral, but this spot gives you a real taste of the city without the tourist markup on everything.

The building itself has this understated elegance that I really appreciate – it’s not trying to be some grand palace hotel, but everything feels deliberate and well-thought-out. My room had these gorgeous hardwood floors that actually creaked a little when you walked across them (in a charming way, not an “oh god this place is falling apart” way), and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious with one of those rain showers that actually has decent water pressure. You know what really got me though? The lighting. So many hotels get this wrong, but they’ve got these warm, soft fixtures that make you look human instead of like you’re being interrogated. The bed was properly comfortable too – firm enough that you don’t sink into oblivion, but soft enough that I slept through the night despite being a notoriously light sleeper.

What I love about this area is that you’re surrounded by actual neighborhood life. There’s this fantastic little bakery called Du Pain et des Idées just around the corner where locals queue up every morning – their pain au chocolat is honestly worth the trip to Strasbourg alone. The hotel staff clearly knows the neighborhood well too; they pointed me toward this tiny wine bar about three blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my favorite evenings of the whole trip. Parking can be a bit of a challenge if you’re driving (honestly, just take the tram), but the front desk sorted me out with a spot in a nearby garage without any drama. The breakfast spread is solid – nothing fancy, but good coffee, fresh pastries, and they don’t try to pass off those terrible processed croissants as the real thing. One small thing that might bother some people: the walls aren’t super thick, so you might hear your neighbors if they’re having a particularly animated conversation, but it quiets down pretty early in the evening. The 8.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s a genuinely pleasant place to stay with character and soul, which is harder to find than you’d think these days.

Reviews

  • Great location! – Suzanne from Australia – 6 January 2025 (8/10)

Location of the property was excellent – close to train station & centre of town

What could be improved: A little bit more room in the toilet would’ve been great!

  • Very good – Afroditi from Greece – 4 July 2024 (8/10)

Location. Roomy apartment ,well equipped. Pictures on the site respond to reality.

What could be improved: Very difficult to contact them, especially on weekends. It's an agency that is closed past hours and weekends. We had the wrong keys for the main entrance of the building and had to walk somewhere else to pick them up from a locker. After taking a shower the bathroom floor was full of water. Too many rules to follow when leaving the apartment.

  • Superb – Nareswari from Indonesia – 30 December 2023 (9/10)

Best location, facility (dishwasher, washing machine, kitchen with oven)

What could be improved: Checkin time at 16.00 is so late, and checkout at 10.00 is too early for me
The pin code is not working at first, hopefully they fast response when we make a call /chat to get a new one

  • Great place to stay, great location. – Zedzsyd from Australia – 31 October 2023 (9/10)

We really appreciated the gigantic modern television. Location was excellent. Bed was comfortable. We were swapped with another apartment at the last minute. This apartment was certainly nicer, but I could have done with the space of the other one which was bigger.

What could be improved: Front door was shared with a burger shop and both doors were left open a lot of the time. Sometimes we could hear the neighbours as it was loud. Although check-in instructions were clear, due to confusion over check-in time, the code did not work and we ended up staying outside front door for 30 minutes. Noise from tram was sometimes a little noisy.

  • Exceptional – Jesus from Spain – 2 April 2025 (10/10)

Perfect, spacious, clean and with everything you need for a stay.

  • Great location and apartment, just a little difficult to deal with the hosts – Shona from New Zealand – 20 December 2023 (4/10)

Apartment was very close to the train station and only a short walk into the centre of the city. The main bed was very comfortable. Good sized bathroom and good to have a washing machine.

What could be improved: We had to ring the host on arrival as the access number provided did not work. Then we had the smoke alarm low on batteries while we were there (which meant it beeped at us) and they took 24 hours to fix it. High expectation on requiring us to deposit rubbish in one location and bottles elsewhere when you don't know the city or the country.

  • Superb – Armelle from Spain – 3 September 2024 (9/10)

Très bien placé. Proche du centre, de la gare et des bus amenant à europapark.
L'appartement donne sur un pstio, loin des bruits de la rue.

  • Good – Mai from Japan – 11 July 2024 (7/10)

    立地は抜群で、駅や大きなスーパーが徒歩圏内です。
    部屋はおしゃれな内装でかつ広く、大人4人でも十分な広さでした。
    洗濯機がついていたのもありがたかったです。

    What could be improved:

  • Bien – Vania from Switzerland – 21 May 2024 (7/10)

    Propreté et localisation

What could be improved: Literie déchirée
Juste préciser dans le guide d’arrivée qu’il y a 2 ascenseurs et indiquer lequel prendre !
    Sortie d’eau à la douche

  • Superb – Ane from Spain – 16 October 2023 (9/10)

    La ubicación

What could be improved: No es que no me gusto, pero cuando nos duchabamos, el agua se escapaba por debajo y mojamos todo el baño
