Hotel Description

Okay, so L’Appartement de l’Observatoire – honestly, the name had me thinking it would be some stuffy academic place, but I was completely wrong. This little gem sits right on Avenue du Général de Gaulle, which sounds super formal but it’s actually this lovely tree-lined street that feels more residential than touristy. You know what struck me first? The building itself has that classic Alsatian charm without trying too hard – clean lines, those distinctive shutters, and you can tell someone actually cares about maintaining the place.

The thing about Strasbourg is that location is everything, and these folks really get it. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from the cathedral (I timed it), but here’s the kicker – you’re positioned perfectly to avoid the worst of the tourist crowds while still being close enough to duck into the old town whenever you want. I mean, Place Kléber is right there, but you’re tucked away enough that you won’t hear the trams rumbling by at 6 AM. Trust me on this one – I’ve stayed in places closer to the action and regretted it by day three. The street has this quiet, almost village-y feel despite being so central, and there’s a little boulangerie around the corner that locals actually use (always a good sign).

What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that you don’t expect from a four-star. The rooms feel more like staying in a well-designed apartment than a hotel – hence the name, I suppose. Everything just works properly, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. The Wi-Fi actually reaches every corner, the shower has decent pressure, and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you slept on a marshmallow. I particularly loved the little touches – proper coffee setup, not those pod machines that taste like cardboard, and windows that open wide enough to let in that crisp Alsatian air. The staff clearly knows the neighborhood too; they pointed me toward this incredible winstub that I never would have found on my own, tucked away on some tiny side street. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of town – there’s street parking but it fills up fast, so definitely ask about their arrangements when you book. That 9-star rating makes total sense once you’ve been there; it’s not flashy or over-the-top, just thoughtfully done in a way that makes you want to extend your stay. Perfect for people who want to experience Strasbourg like they actually live there, not just passing through with a camera.

Fantastic location near to the tram. Exceptionally friendly and helpful hosts. Spacious living area and good-sized bedrooms. Balcony. Strong flow from the shower!

  • Excellent service – Peri from Australia – 23 June 2025 (10/10)

Exceptional service by owners. Greeted at door, shown around neighbourhood and guided to parking spot nearby. Bottle of bubbly and local coffee provided. Unit was comfortable and well appointed.
We cooked and did laundry-all good. 32 degrees outside but with cross breeze no air conditioning needed. Tram at doorstep made access to centre and train simple.

What could be improved: Awaken every morning at 5:30am with noise of first tram and sunlight ( windows open). Suggest sleeping with ear buds

The apartment was very clean and well appointed with amenities. Our host met us to give us the key, a run down of how everything works and information for shopping nearby. A supermarket and bakery are easy walking distance.
The tram for going downtown is just around the corner and very easy to navigate.
It was the perfect stay for us to enjoy the Christmas markets and a little sightseeing of beautiful Strasbourg.

  • spacious clean place, good for longer stay with washer/dryer. – Amy from Canada – 12 April 2024 (9/10)

very clean, spacious, good location, washer/dryer, nice host.

What could be improved: you can see that it's an older building but that's no problem considering how clean and spacious it is. one suggestion would be to change balcony chairs, they were falling apart and if possible to install shower curtains.
