Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to L’Académie on Rue de l’Académie, I wasn’t expecting much from the street level. It’s this narrow little road in Strasbourg’s center, and you know how these historic French streets can be… sometimes what looks modest from outside surprises you completely. And that’s exactly what happened here.

The whole setup is actually pretty clever – they’ve got this 4-star place tucked right into the old academic quarter (hence the name, obviously), and the real selling point is absolutely that terrace they mention. I mean, you’re literally looking out over Strasbourg’s rooftlines, and on a clear day you can see the cathedral spires poking up through the maze of timber-framed buildings. The parking situation is honestly a godsend too – anyone who’s tried to navigate a car through Strasbourg’s old town knows what a nightmare it can be, so having a dedicated spot is worth its weight in gold. The staff mentioned they only have limited spaces though, so you’ll want to mention it when booking.

What struck me most was how they’ve managed to balance that historic Alsatian charm with actual modern comfort. The rooms aren’t huge – this is old Europe, after all – but they’re thoughtfully laid out, and the beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses, so trust me on this). The terrace gets the best light in the late afternoon, around 5 or 6 PM, when the whole city sort of glows in that golden hour way. You’ll hear some street noise during the day since you’re right in the heart of things, but it quiets down nicely in the evenings. Actually, the location puts you about a 10-minute walk from Place Kléber, and you’re even closer to some of the best winstubs in the city – there’s this little place called Chez Yvonne just a few streets over that the locals still frequent.

The 7.7 rating feels about right to me, honestly. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises – a solid, well-located base with that fantastic terrace view and the huge bonus of not having to worry about your car. The staff speaks decent English (though a few French phrases never hurt), and they actually know the neighborhood well enough to give you real recommendations, not just the touristy stuff. I stayed there in early October, and the whole area was perfect for walking around – close enough to everything important but just off the main tourist drag so you get a bit of authentic Strasbourg life. If you’re the type who values location and a good view over flashy amenities, this place will work really well for you.

  What could be improved: I had requested bed linen for the sofa bed as we were three mature women needing a bed each. This was not done and we could not find any sheets or blankets in the cupboards. We were very disappointed .

  Apartment is likely bigger than usual in Strasbourg. Surprisingly long hallway in the apartment makes you wonder about the architect's inner monologue. However, the apartment is really comfy, very good beds, had a sound sleep. Very nice large screen TV, coffee machine and the spacious bathroom are definitely bonus. Heating system fast and proper. Apartment features also a spacious balcony.
  There was a little confusion afterwards with the owner about the property, but it was nicely clarified. Additional bonus is a reserved place for your car in the garage, as it is not easy to park in this area. Old town is in walking distance. Might book it for next time indeed and recommend.
