Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve stayed in plenty of quirky places around Europe, but Fabrice’s houseboat really caught me off guard in the best way possible. When you first walk down Quai des Belges – and honestly, finding it is half the adventure since most tourists are buzzing around the cathedral area – you’ll spot this beautifully maintained péniche bobbing gently on the Ill River. I mean, sleeping on water in the heart of Strasbourg? It sounds gimmicky until you actually experience it.
The whole setup is surprisingly sophisticated for a boat stay. That private jacuzzi isn’t just thrown on deck as an afterthought – it’s actually integrated thoughtfully into the design, and trust me, soaking in hot water while watching the evening light hit those half-timbered buildings across the river is pretty magical. The interior feels way more spacious than you’d expect, with clever storage solutions everywhere (Fabrice clearly knows what he’s doing). What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re literally floating in the city center. The gentle rocking motion is subtle – I was worried I’d feel seasick, but it’s more like being rocked to sleep, honestly.
Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned without dealing with the tourist chaos of Petite France. Walk five minutes toward Place Kléber and you’re in the thick of things, but retreat back to the boat and it feels like your own private escape. Parking can be tricky around here during the day – there’s street parking nearby but it fills up fast, especially during the Christmas market season. Pro tip: Fabrice actually gives solid local recommendations, not just the obvious stuff. He pointed me toward this little wine bar on Rue des Dentelles that I never would’ve found otherwise. The 9.4 rating makes total sense when you factor in how unique the experience is combined with genuine attention to detail. It’s not trying to be a luxury hotel – it’s something better, something you’ll actually remember and want to tell people about.

Reviews
Unique, comfortable and reasonably priced, this houseboat rental is worth a look! – Anthony from United States – 1 July 2025 (10/10)
Even though we were only there for 1 night, we had a wonderful stay at this lovely property! It is close to supermarkets and restaurants and it only took a short drive to get to Grand Ile and the historic district. The jacuzzi was fantastic and the property is well appointed.
A Peaceful Stay with Great Amenities – Reza from Germany – 14 June 2025 (9/10)
The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere, offering a peaceful location near a park. Public transportation and a supermarket are conveniently close by. The room was spotless and well-equipped, ensuring a comfortable stay. The jacuzzi was an excellent addition, making the experience even more enjoyable.
What could be improved: A dishwasher was missing, and the air conditioner did not function properly, which impacted the overall convenienceA special place to stay in Strasbourg. – Simon from Germany – 5 June 2025 (10/10)
This is a very different but very special place to stay in Strasbourg. Everything is tastefully done but also practical and comfortable. The deck with Jacuzzi is very private and a great place to relax and enjoy a sunny morning or a quiet evening.
A great stay overall with a chilled bottle of Cava as a welcome in the fridge! – Ruth from Canada – 24 March 2025 (9/10)
Unfortunately the weather wasn't great with the exception of one day (I stayed 3 nights in early March). To have such a lovely place and a divine personal hot tub to return "home" to was so very welcome! The only reason I didn't give a top rating to the host was because they kept emailing me in French and it wasn't easy for me to translate without my laptop (I am not a tech wizard by any means). I understood that the host did speak English and she did communicate the odd time in that language. I was very appreciative of the fact that I could secure a bit later check out time and that the cleaning person arrived while I was leaving and assisted me to the bus stop with my bags! Unless I missed it, it should be made known that you only need one bus (G) to access the property from the main train station, which I found very convenient.
What could be improved: It was raining when I arrived and took a taxi from the train station and gave him the address of 10 Quai des Belges, which is in fact the address of the harbour master office I guess. The barge is actually at #8, I believe, and is a bit before #10. It was a bit confusing when I spotted the barge and told the taxi driver we had just passed it. He was great and turned around and took my bigger bag to the entrance of the barge and waited for me to confirm I was in the right place. I also had some trouble figuring out the heat properly and ensuring the fan was turned on to spread the heat. I do think it would be nice if one just had to package up their garbage properly and not to have to find and take it to the garbage disposal area back by the "Europe Boat" harbour master location, especially in the rain. Minor complaints overall.Exceptional – Laurentiu from Belgium – 5 March 2025 (10/10)
great experience on the peniche boat
What could be improved: all perfectGreat atmosphere regardless of the weather – Eugen from Belgium – 13 February 2025 (10/10)
Excellent communication with the host
an unusually magical experience, we would certainly repeat it for next Christmas – Dejan from Germany – 30 January 2025 (10/10)
Beautiful location. In a really quiet and peaceful place in the city center. We have a wonderful time on the terrace in the Jacuzzi with a view of the city.
What could be improved: You have to make a path to the entrance of the property, the access is across the lawn and is very muddy.Good after work relaxing accusation – Eugen from Belgium – 26 January 2025 (10/10)
Excellent relaxing time in the evening to relax in the jacuzzi
Another excellent stay with Fabrice – Eugen from Belgium – 28 October 2024 (10/10)
Excellent host very friendly and accommodating. We asked for an second set of linens and all was prepared for us in advance.
Exceptional – Carsten from Germany – 5 August 2024 (10/10)
A very charming alternative to a hotel solution. Our appartment on this boat was one of three, each with a jaccuzi on deck. The boat lies about 2km from Strasbourg city center, so about a 15min walk.
