Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to 6a Rue de la Lanterne, I almost missed it entirely. The entrance is tucked between these gorgeous half-timbered buildings that honestly steal the show, but once you’re inside La Lanterne’s T2 apartment, you get why people keep coming back despite the 7.3 rating (which, let’s face it, seems a bit harsh).
The whole “300m from the cathedral” thing isn’t just marketing speak – I mean, you can literally hear the bells from your window, and if you crane your neck just right from the living area, you catch glimpses of those incredible Gothic spires. What really got me though was how quiet it stays despite being right in the thick of things. Rue de la Lanterne runs parallel to the main tourist drag, so you’re close enough to stumble back from dinner at Maison Kammerzell (do the choucroute, trust me), but far enough that you’re not dealing with groups of tourists chattering outside at 6 AM. The T2 setup works brilliantly – there’s actually space to spread out your stuff, and the kitchen area means you can grab fresh bread from the boulangerie around the corner and have a proper breakfast instead of paying hotel prices.
You know what surprised me most? The neighborhood vibe once you get past the initial tourist zone feel. Walk five minutes toward Place Kléber and you’re in full-on shopping territory, but head the other direction toward the Ill River and suddenly you’re strolling past locals walking their dogs and old guys playing pétanque. The apartment itself has this sort of renovated charm – modern enough that everything works properly (the shower pressure is actually decent), but with enough character that it doesn’t feel like a generic rental. Parking is… well, it’s Strasbourg’s old town, so forget about street parking unless you enjoy circling for an hour. There’s a garage about a ten-minute walk away, or honestly, just ditch the car and walk everywhere – the tram stops right at Langstross if you need to venture further out. Check-in was smooth enough, though you’ll want to coordinate timing since it’s not a traditional hotel setup. One thing to note – if you’re here during Christmas market season (which, let’s be real, is when Strasbourg is most magical), book way ahead and expect everything to be busier and pricier. But there’s something pretty special about being able to retreat to your own little space after a day of mulled wine and crowd-dodging, especially when the cathedral bells are ringing and you can see the market lights twinkling from your window.
Hotels in Strasbourg offer guests the perfect blend of French elegance and Alsatian charm, with many featuring regional wine concierge services and traditional half-timbered architecture to enhance the authentic Franco-German cultural experience.

Very good – Matthias from Switzerland – 28 June 2025 (8/10)
