Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hôtel Tandem, I wasn’t expecting much from a place literally sitting on Place de la Gare. I mean, train station hotels usually scream “budget business traveler,” right? But this little boutique spot completely flipped that assumption on its head. The moment you step inside, you realize someone actually put serious thought into this place. The lobby has this warm, contemporary vibe that feels more like a friend’s stylish apartment than a typical hotel reception area.

What really gets me about Tandem is how they’ve managed to turn what could be a noisy location into an actual advantage. Yes, you’re right at the station – which, honestly, is brilliant if you’re doing day trips to Colmar or hitting up the Christmas markets without dealing with Strasbourg’s somewhat chaotic parking situation. But here’s the thing: the rooms are surprisingly quiet, and you know what? Being able to walk thirty seconds to catch the tram into Petite France or over to the cathedral district is pretty sweet. I stayed here during the summer when the city gets absolutely packed with tourists, and while everyone else was circling around looking for parking spots, I was already sipping coffee at Café Brant around the corner.

The rooms themselves have character – not that generic hotel room feeling you get at chains. Mine had these interesting design touches that felt intentional rather than trying-too-hard trendy. The bathroom was actually spacious (rare for European city hotels, let’s be real), and they’d clearly invested in decent shower pressure. Small detail, but when you’ve been walking cobblestones all day, it matters. The staff genuinely seemed to know Strasbourg well too – they pointed me toward this little winstub on Rue des Tonneliers that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my best meals in the city. That’s the kind of local insight you don’t get from bigger places where the front desk staff might live twenty minutes outside town. I did notice the elevator is pretty compact, so if you’re traveling with massive suitcases, just be aware. But honestly, that’s a minor thing in a building that’s clearly been thoughtfully renovated rather than built from scratch. The 9-star rating makes sense once you stay here – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Strasbourg, but it absolutely nails what it’s going for.

  Location within 100 metres of railway terminus.
  10 mins walk to Petit France Area;
  Memorable breakfasts -20 euros proved to be excellent value..
  It is clear that the staff enjoy working at the hotel. They are excellent and are a credit to the hotel.

  The reception and bar staff were very friendly and helpful, with suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing. The breakfast was good.

  Lovely, modern boutique hotel with ECO ethos.
  Very friendly and helpful staff members who all took the time to speak to us.
  A very quiet, understated, modern vibe about the place.
  Close to train station and a short walk to everything else.
  Our room on the 3rd floor overlooked the station and had a lovely balcony.
  The room was modern and was a good size for a double. Super-comfy large bed.
  The air-con was AMAZING in 32°+ heat.
  Compact and bijou shower room with large double sized powerful shower.Amazing shower products too.
  Lovely public areas…bar, library, outdoor patio. All beautifully and tastefully decorated.
  The whole hotel was clean and well looked after.
  Breakfast was wonderful with all locally sourced and made in-house products. Lovely choice in the buffet. Gorgeous table settings and tableware.
