Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels in Strasbourg’s old town, and honestly? Most of them try too hard to play up that whole “historic charm” thing while secretly cutting corners. But Hôtel & Spa Le Bouclier D’or actually gets it right – and I mean, with a 9.2 rating, they’re clearly doing something special.

The location on rue du Bouclier is pretty much perfect if you know Strasbourg at all. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the cathedral (you can actually hear the bells, which is either charming or annoying depending on how you feel about being woken up at 7 AM), but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the tourist crowds right outside your window. What I really love is that you can walk to Petite France in like ten minutes, but you’re also super close to all the good restaurants locals actually go to – not just the touristy places around the cathedral square. The staff actually gave me solid recommendations for dinner, which… honestly, most hotel concierges just hand you the same generic list.

The building itself has this really nice balance – it’s got that Alsatian character you want (exposed beams, that sort of thing) without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum. The rooms are properly soundproofed too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re in the city center. I stayed during Christmas market season and barely heard the crowds, even though we were right in the thick of things. The spa is genuinely relaxing – not huge, but well-designed and never felt crowded when I was there. After walking around cobblestones all day, that steam room was exactly what I needed. One thing that impressed me was the breakfast – they source a lot locally, and you can tell. The bread alone… I mean, it’s Alsace, so the bar is pretty high, but they cleared it easily. Parking can be a bit tricky (it’s the old town, what do you expect?), but they’ve got arrangements with a nearby garage, and the staff is super helpful about explaining how to get there without getting lost in those narrow streets. You know what really sold me though? The little details. Fresh flowers that actually looked like someone cared about them, not just grabbed whatever was cheap. Bathrobes that were properly fluffy. Staff who remembered my name after the first day. It’s a four-star place with four-star prices, sure, but it feels like they’re actually trying to earn those stars instead of just coasting on the location.

  Location was perfect, the decor in the hotel was beautiful, the staff were incredibly helpful and spoke English fluently. We didn't get time to try the spa, sadly! But everything at the hotel was top notch.

  The room was huge and spotless and really comfortable, we stayed for a week and loved our time there. The location is fabulous, staff are lovely and housekeeping did a perfect job. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Views were amazing too, three windows in our room.
