Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hôtel Du Dragon? The name actually makes sense when you see it – there’s this subtle dragon motif woven throughout the place that feels sophisticated rather than gimmicky. It sits right on rue du Dragon (obviously), which is honestly one of those perfect Strasbourg streets where you’re close enough to everything but not drowning in tourist chaos.
The location is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the cathedral – and I mean a pleasant ten minutes through some genuinely charming streets, not a slog through traffic. Place Kléber is right there too, which is handy because that’s where you’ll find yourself oriented from most of the time. The hotel itself has this refined four-star feel without being stuffy about it. I was expecting standard European hotel vibes, but the rooms have character – good linens, thoughtful lighting, and windows that actually open (you’d be surprised how often that’s not a given). The bathrooms are modern without feeling sterile, and honestly, the water pressure was excellent, which always makes me happy after walking around cobblestones all day.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know Strasbourg inside and out. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but they pointed me toward this great little winstub that I never would have found otherwise – it’s tucked away near Place du Marché Gayot, maybe five minutes on foot. The breakfast was solid (French hotels can be hit or miss with this), and they had local pastries alongside the usual continental spread. I stayed during late spring, so I can’t speak to how busy it gets during Christmas market season, but the street itself stayed pretty quiet in the evenings. Parking isn’t on-site, but there’s a public garage nearby that the hotel can arrange – just factor that into your budget if you’re driving. The 8.6 rating feels about right; it’s the kind of place that does everything well without any major surprises, good or bad. If you want to be in the heart of Strasbourg without paying cathedral-view prices, and you appreciate a hotel that feels more like a local recommendation than a chain booking, Du Dragon hits that sweet spot perfectly.

The breakfast and location were great. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I rented a bike and cycled around the city and helmet and yellow vest were also provided (where wanted) which was great. A/C in the room was also welcome even if I tried not to use it too much, it was very hot outside.
What could be improved: I am not sure the upgrade in rooms made that much of a difference.Exceptional – Joel from France – 9 July 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic air con. The weather was incredibly hot when we stayed but the room was cool on arrival and stayed cool all night. We slept so well which was a pleasant change from our earlier hotels. Staff really friendly and helpful. Breakfast delicious and check out easy. Would definitely recommend them to friends and visit again if ever returning to Strasbourg.
