Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel de l’Orangerie? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – there’s this lovely courtyard with citrus trees that you glimpse through the lobby windows, and it immediately sets this calm, almost residential vibe that’s refreshing after navigating Strasbourg’s busy center. The place sits on Allée de la Robertsau, which honestly took me a minute to find the first time (it’s in the Robertsau district, about a 15-minute tram ride from the cathedral), but that slight remove from the tourist chaos is actually one of its biggest selling points.
The hotel itself feels authentically Alsatian without being kitschy about it – I mean, you’ll find those traditional timber details and clean lines, but they’ve kept things understated rather than going full theme-park mode. My room was comfortable enough, though the bathroom was one of those compact European affairs where you practically have to be a contortionist to avoid soaking the toilet paper while showering. The beds are proper firm, which I appreciated, and the windows actually open (a small miracle in many chain hotels these days). What really won me over was how quiet it gets at night – the Robertsau area doesn’t have the late-night tram rumble or drunk tourists singing in the streets that you’ll get closer to Petite France.
The staff runs pretty lean, but they’re genuinely helpful when you need them, and parking is available on-site, which saves you from the nightmare of finding a spot in Strasbourg’s medieval street maze. Breakfast is solid – not blow-your-mind amazing, but fresh pastries, good coffee, and they’ll accommodate dietary restrictions without making you feel like you’re asking for the moon. The location grows on you too; there’s a decent bakery just down the street for morning runs (Boulangerie Schaetzel – locals swear by their pretzels), and you’re actually closer to the European Parliament quarter if that’s relevant to your trip. Sure, it’s not going to win any luxury awards, and the 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s the kind of place that does what it promises without pretense, which honestly feels pretty rare these days.
Early hotels booking in Strasbourg is essential during major events like the Christmas Market, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city’s renowned festive atmosphere and Gothic architecture.

Nice decoration and style. Staff is very friendly and nice. Room is very clean.
What could be improved: Location: little far from the city center but bus stops is nearby.
Isolation: you can hear your neighbor walking on the parquet or talking in the corridor.
Some standard utilities were missing such as Kleenex paper, kettle and coffee traySuperb – Dejan from Bosnia and Herzegovina – 7 December 2024 (9/10)

polite and helpful staff, good information
basically everything meets the needs
What could be improved: the room is overly perfumed with cleaning products; the smell lingered for a long time even after airing the room for a long time: there was no phen; hard-to-reach switches for chargers; weak water flow in the bathroomSuperb – Klaus from Austria – 28 October 2024 (9/10)
The hotel is located near the Orangery Park. The room with elegant charm and high ceilings looked much better in real life than in the photo. The Breakfast was brought to the room and was sufficient. All in all – value for money is very good.
Hotel let down by grumpy staff – Judith from United Kingdom – 26 October 2024 (7/10)
Nice room and good continental breakfast delivered to the room
What could be improved: Grumpy reception staff. Hotel is being done up, which wasn't a problem, but his attitude was.Very good – Dragoljub from Bosnia and Herzegovina – 11 June 2024 (8/10)
What could be improved: The rooms do not have a kettle. I think it's a must have
