Hôtel de l’Europe by HappyCulture Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hôtel de l’Europe by HappyCulture on rue du Fossé des Tanneurs, you immediately get that feeling you’re somewhere special. The building itself has this classic European charm that fits perfectly with Strasbourg’s historic character — honestly, it’s exactly what you’d picture when imagining a proper French hotel. The entrance feels welcoming without being overly fancy, which I appreciate because sometimes four-star places can try too hard to impress.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what really struck me about this place? The location is absolutely unbeatable. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of everything — the cathedral is just a few minutes’ walk away, and you can easily stroll to Petite France without breaking a sweat. The street itself is quiet enough that you won’t be kept awake by traffic, but bustling enough that you feel connected to the city’s energy. Couples seem to absolutely love it here (and honestly, I can see why — there’s something romantic about being able to wander those cobblestone streets right from your doorstep).
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was well-designed — not huge by American standards, but perfectly sized for European city travel. Everything felt thoughtfully arranged, and the bed was actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case). The decor strikes this nice balance between modern amenities and that classic French hotel aesthetic. The bathroom was clean and functional, though if you’re someone who needs tons of counter space, you might find it a bit snug.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup here is solid — they offer both continental and buffet options, which gives you some flexibility depending on your mood. I’m usually pretty picky about hotel breakfasts, but this one actually delivered. The buffet had a good variety without being overwhelming, and the continental option felt authentic rather than just throwing some pastries on a plate. The dining area has a pleasant atmosphere where you can actually enjoy your morning coffee instead of feeling rushed.
Why Guests Love It
After spending time here, I totally understand why this place gets such high ratings. It’s not trying to be the flashiest hotel in town — instead, it focuses on getting the fundamentals right. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, the location puts you right where you want to be for exploring Strasbourg, and everything just works smoothly. For couples especially, there’s something special about being able to step out your door and immediately be surrounded by one of France’s most beautiful cities. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing authentic Strasbourg rather than just staying in a generic hotel that happens to be there.

The location was perfect to visit the city. The room was nice and clean. The staff was kind and they were happy to help you with anything you need.
What could be improved: The parking isn’t at the property, but in a location nearby. That isn’t an issue cause the hotel gave us a discount. But it’s better to know it in advance.A lovely hotel centrally located. We would highly recommend and would stay again. – Lynne from Australia – 9 June 2025 (9/10)
The location was very good, close to the station and walking distance to all of Strasbourg.
The room were allocated had a deep bath, we needed a walk in shower. We were immediately given another room, much larger and very comfortable.
The staff were excellent and very friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: The breakfast was a little bit disappointing.Great place to stay in a great location! – Michael from United States – 3 June 2025 (9/10)
The hotel is located in the Old Town with a lot of restaurants and shops close by. It's only a 5-10 minute walk to La Petite Paris and the Cathedral. It's a 10-15 minute walk from the train station. Our room was quiet and the staff are helpful. We stayed there before and would stay there again.
What could be improved: Nothing.Comfortable, clean and conviently located! – Mary from United States – 1 June 2025 (8/10)
Plenty of room with everything we needed. Great location – central to walking old town area and plenty of shopping and restaurants.
