Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel Arok? The location is honestly perfect if you’re one of those travelers who actually uses trains. I mean, it’s literally facing the train station – you can see Place de la Gare from most of the front-facing rooms. Now, you might think “oh great, train noise all night,” but here’s the thing: Strasbourg’s station isn’t one of those massive, constantly bustling terminals. It gets surprisingly quiet after about 10 PM, and the double-glazed windows do their job well.
The hotel itself has that clean, no-nonsense vibe that three-star places do best when they’re run by people who actually care. The lobby’s compact but welcoming, and check-in was refreshingly quick – none of that “let me tell you about seventeen amenities you don’t need” routine. What I really appreciated was how the staff knew their neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Petite France (because, let’s be honest, that’s where everyone wants to go), the front desk guy didn’t just point toward the old town – he mentioned taking Rue du Maire Kuss instead of the main drag because it’s prettier and less crowded with tour groups. That kind of local insight makes a difference.
The rooms are what you’d expect for the price point, but thoughtfully done. Mine faced the square, and I loved watching the early morning commuter flow – Strasbourg locals on their bikes, that mix of French efficiency and Alsatian charm. The bathroom was properly sized (not one of those European coffin showers), and honestly, the bed was more comfortable than it had any right to be for what I paid. There’s free wifi that actually works, which shouldn’t be noteworthy in 2024 but somehow still is. The breakfast is simple continental stuff, but the croissants come from a local bakery – you can tell because they’re properly flaky, not those sad hotel versions that taste like cardboard.
What really sells this place is the practicality of it all. You’re a five-minute walk from the cathedral, maybe seven to the covered bridges if you don’t get distracted by all the half-timbered houses (which you will). The tram stops right outside, so getting to the European Parliament or anywhere else in the city is straightforward. There’s a Monoprix around the corner for essentials, and if you’re into that whole Alsatian wine thing, there’s a decent cave à vin on Rue de la Nuée Bleue that the concierge recommended.
Look, Hotel Arok isn’t going to wow you with marble lobbies or fancy spa treatments. But if you want a clean, comfortable base in Strasbourg that doesn’t eat your entire travel budget – and you appreciate staying somewhere that feels connected to the actual rhythm of the city rather than tourist bubble-wrapped – this place delivers. That 8.8 rating isn’t some marketing fluke; it’s what happens when a hotel does the basics really well and treats travelers like actual people instead of walking wallets.

What could be improved: All was awesome!Clean, modern, comfortable. And oh so cool. – Sam from United Kingdom – 24 July 2025 (9/10)
It’s just all so new and scrupulously clean. I stay here every year on my way to Italy. It’s perfect for a recharge if you’re travelling by train, being right next to the station.
What could be improved: No mini bar!Excellent base for visiting Strasbourg! – Tracey from United Kingdom – 21 July 2025 (10/10)
Literally across the road from the train station and easy to spot as soon as you go outside. The hotel was not part of huge chain and the small personal touches made it unique. The hotel and room were spotlessly clean and the windows were huge which opened to let fresh air in. The bathroom was small with a walk in shower and separate toilet. Again very clean. Lovely soft towels. No kettle on the room but tea, coffee etc was available from reception.
Wonderful – Stoicheff from United States – 21 July 2025 (9/10)

Fun and trendy with a nice staff – Cris from Germany – 20 July 2025 (9/10)
Very functional, well laid out rooms and bathroom. Especially considering this is a renovation building. Nice large bed, full sized shower, good lighting, plenty of plugs and an easy to view TV. The staff was super nice and multi-lingual at the reception. The location near the main train station is very convenient.
What could be improved: If you have a lot of activities in the old town, it’s about a 15-20 minute walk. Not horrible, but something to consider. Breakfast had a nice selection of baked goods but the dining area was packed both mornings with long lines at the single coffee machine. We ended up sitting at the backgammon table in the lobby to eat.Honeymoon layover in Strasbourg – Michael from Canada – 16 July 2025 (10/10)
Stayed for one night on our honeymoon and the managers were kind to upgrade us to a better room in the renovated building. Everything was brand new, and the room was perfect with a great view. Thank you!
