Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Holiday Inn Express on Rue de la Corderie, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked into this narrow street that you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it, but that actually turned out to be one of its best features. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the cathedral (and I mean a proper leisurely stroll, not that rushed tourist pace), but the location keeps you away from the crowds that pile up around Place Kléber, especially during Christmas market season.

The thing that struck me right away was how quiet it gets at night – which is sort of miraculous when you consider you’re smack in the center of Strasbourg. I mean, you can still hear the occasional tram rumbling by on nearby streets, but it’s more of a gentle city hum than anything disruptive. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from Holiday Inn Express – clean, functional, nothing fancy but honestly, that’s exactly what I wanted after spending days wandering around the cobblestone streets. The beds are actually quite comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the shower pressure was surprisingly good for a European hotel. What I really appreciated was the little kitchenette setup – not that you’d want to cook when you’re surrounded by all those winstubs, but having a proper fridge and the ability to make coffee without waiting for room service was genuinely useful.

The breakfast situation is solid – you know what you’re getting with these chain hotels, and they deliver on it. Fresh croissants, decent coffee, and enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying multiple nights. The staff seemed to know the area well, too; the guy at reception gave me directions to this little bakery on Rue des Bouchers that I never would have found otherwise. Parking can be a bit of a headache (well, it’s Strasbourg city center, what do you expect?), but there’s a public garage about three blocks away that’s not too expensive by French standards. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s one of those places that just works without any drama, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you want to focus on exploring rather than dealing with hotel nonsense.

Reviews

  • Good – Małgorzata from Poland – 26 July 2025 (7/10)

Clean rooms, good breakfast, friendly staff

What could be improved: Our room was extremely small, the so called sofa bed was very uncomfortable. The room was prepared for two people not for four- there were two glasses, to spoons etc

  • Superb – Antonia from Greece – 24 July 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is close to the city center 3 stops by tram(A,D) (from stop etoile bourse) and 6 stops far from gare centrale(.bus G).you can also walk to the center in 20-30 minutes.the room is spacious and clean ,the bed is comfortable even though the mattress is a bit firm but we had a very nice sleep!the staff is friendly and helpful and breakfast is good and varied!we enjoyed our stay!

What could be improved: No mini bar or fridge in the room.

  • Good – Ykul from Netherlands – 24 July 2025 (7/10)

The location is great, just a short walk to get to the city center.

Although the parking was full, there is a paid parking garage nearby, and parking slots along the street which are free over the weekend l.

What could be improved: Breakfast options could have been better. There were no vegetables offered.
The staff was cleaning the table while we were still sitting and having coffee which was not enjoyable meaning there were enough free spaces and a whole hour till breakfast time ends. Hard to feel relaxed.
    Still good value for money.

  • Two days – Pauline from Italy – 20 July 2025 (9/10)

Bright rooms and large enough with a good sofa bed to sleep extra people
    Bathroom was nice and modern
Super kids friendly and this was appreciated

What could be improved: They should precise that the parking with payment is actually not closed and monitored 24/7 cos it was a little useless then, and it would have been similar to park in the street…

  • Despite a few small issues we had a nice stay and would stay here again. – Karen from Germany – 13 July 2025 (8/10)

Comfortable hotel, easy 20 minute walk to old town, and the breakfast was very good.

What could be improved: The wifi didn’t work very well for us. I had to wait 10 minutes for hot water in the shower, and there was mold on the bathroom ceiling.

  • Very good – Olafur from Iceland – 11 July 2025 (8/10)

I appreciated the peaceful atmosphere, the comfortable bed, the clean bathroom, the great location, and the friendly staff.

What could be improved: The breakfast was rather poor. It wouldn’t take much to improve it, just a few fresh and simple touches would make a big difference.

  • Good, comfortable hotel, and close to Citycentre – Tanveer from Netherlands – 11 July 2025 (9/10)

The receptionist Ibrahim was very helpful
Convenient location and close to the Citycentre

What could be improved: Breakfast could be improved
