Hotel Description
So I stumbled across this little studio on Rue Wimpheling, and honestly, the name tells you everything you need to know – it really does have this cool underground vibe going on. The Green Cellar isn’t trying to be fancy, but there’s something genuinely charming about how they’ve converted what feels like a traditional Strasbourg building into these compact studios. You know what struck me first? The way they’ve managed to make small spaces feel actually livable, not just touristy crash pads.
The location is where this place really shines, though I wish more people realized how perfect this street is. You’re literally five minutes from the Council of Europe (hence the ridiculously long name), but more importantly for most travelers, you’re in that sweet spot where you can walk to the cathedral in about fifteen minutes without dealing with all the tourist chaos right in Petite France. Rue Wimpheling runs parallel to some of the busier streets, so you get the convenience without constant tram noise – learned that the hard way at other places in the city. The studios themselves are pretty straightforward – think clean lines, decent kitchenette setup, and enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but everything works, and honestly, that matters more when you’re actually staying somewhere for more than a night or two.
What I really appreciated was how the staff actually knows the neighborhood. When I asked about parking (because driving in Strasbourg is its own adventure), they didn’t just hand me a generic map – they told me which streets have free spots after 7 PM and which ones to avoid during market days. Small thing, but it saved me probably an hour of circling around. The rating sits at a 7, which feels about right – it’s solid, reliable, and does what it promises without pretending to be something it’s not. You’ll find better breakfast elsewhere, but you’ll also pay twice as much for the same location. If you’re the type who wants to experience Strasbourg like you’re living there temporarily rather than just passing through, this works really well. Plus, there’s something satisfying about having your own little space to come back to after walking around the European Quarter all day, especially during winter when those council buildings look pretty spectacular but you definitely want somewhere warm to retreat to.

Reviews
Very good – Lenja from Switzerland – 18 November 2024 (8/10)
Very good place for a short visit to Strassbourg. Everything was how we expected and super responsive host, can definitely recommend!
What could be improved: There was a little bit a weird smell, but nothing too bothering.Small, clean place, needs some improvements – Paul from Romania – 11 February 2024 (7/10)
The place was clean.
Some effort was put into making it cosy.
Coffee capsules offered.
Quiet street with a pattiserie across the street.
What could be improved: The ventilation system in the bathroom was noisy and working all the time. As the place is small, the noise is heard from the room; not great if you need silence to fall asleep.
There was no wardrobe, just a hanger on the entry door. Not practical if you need to hang some suits and shirts.Good – Demina from Belgium – 14 December 2023 (7/10)
It was all the necessary stuff in apartment, very warm , cool modern system when you can open by yourself, location is good!
What could be improved: The bed in apartment is too small for tall people , it was not comfortable, a bit complicated to sleepVery good – Nikolai from France – 30 May 2023 (8/10)
I liked the location of the apartment, the content, everything you need for a short stay.
What could be improved: Upon check-in, the washing machine was turned on, which was very noisy, we did not turn it off, because we always enter into a situation, but in my opinion, organizational issues need to be resolved without the presence of guestsNice appartment but I would have appreciated clean bed linen (the dirty set was still in place) – Victor from Spain – 25 September 2022 (6/10)
Comfortable bed and quiet room.
What could be improved: Bed linen was dirty (white stains). A clean set was hanged waiting to be put in place by the guest, which is not very welcoming.Meh – Lauragoncalves98 from Portugal – 11 January 2024 (7/10)
Decoration
Mattress was comfy
What could be improved: Too hot (couldn't regulate the room temperature easily)
Pillows were very bad and uncomfortable
The kitchen sink was loose
There were no pots on the kitchen
After the first stay the hot water stopped working and stayed like that until the end of our stay (even after they came to fix it)
Too much static electricity for some reasonGood stay – Andrei from Romania – 19 July 2025 (9/10)
Cozy little room at the ground floor. Even though you go down after you enter the building, I didn’t feel like I was “underground in the basement” like others say.
The host agreed to let us keep our backpacks in the room until 13:30.
Easy self check-in and check-out
Good wifi
What could be improved: Even though it’s close to the city centre and situated in a very nice neighbourhood, the entire street lacks the public transport so if you want to take a bus or a tram to the city center, you have to walk almost to the city center to take it (10 minutes). Not much, but when you are already tired it counts.Pretty nice apartment – Nikita from Lithuania – 14 August 2024 (10/10)
Good fan, pretty decorations, comfortable bed (the mattress is too small for the bed), good location.
What could be improved: No A/C, the toilet is leaking water, some dishes was not perfectly clean.Very nice apartment making the long weekend in Strasbourg unforgettable – David from Netherlands – 29 May 2023 (9/10)
Clean nice apartment and complete amenities. In addition timely digital info from the landlord about entry process.
What could be improved: Not applicableI loved it 🙂 – Aboulas from Morocco – 10 March 2023 (10/10)
It is very charming and clean .
Good neighborhood.
Almost everything you may need.
