Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Evasion Cathédrale when I first walked up – I mean, it’s tucked right into that maze of cobblestone streets around the cathedral, and honestly, a lot of those old Strasbourg buildings look pretty similar from the outside. But the moment you step inside, there’s this warm, lived-in feeling that immediately puts you at ease. The lobby’s got this perfect mix of Alsatian charm and modern touches that doesn’t feel forced or touristy.
The location is honestly ridiculous – and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re literally steps from the cathedral (hence the name), but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: being this close means you get to experience the real rhythm of the place. In the mornings, before the tour groups arrive, you can walk out your door and have those incredible Gothic spires practically to yourself. The staff actually told me the best time to grab coffee is around 7:30 AM at the little café on Rue du Maroquin – just a two-minute walk – when the light hits the cathedral just right. And parking? Well, forget about driving into this area anyway. I left my car at the Austerlitz parking garage (about a 10-minute walk) and didn’t touch it for three days.
What really got me about this place was the authenticity of it all. The rooms aren’t huge – this is old-town Strasbourg, after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed with these beautiful wooden beams and windows that actually open (revolutionary concept, right?). Mine overlooked a quiet courtyard, which was perfect because the main square can get pretty lively, especially during the Christmas market season. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and the bathrooms are modern without losing that European charm. I mean, you’re not getting a massive American-style suite here, but you’re also not paying those prices, and honestly, who comes to Strasbourg to hang out in their hotel room? The breakfast spread is solid – proper French pastries, local jams, decent coffee – though if you want the full Alsatian experience, I’d recommend wandering down to the Saturday market on Place du Marché aux Poissons instead. The whole area comes alive on weekends, and you’ll get a much better sense of how locals actually live. Just be prepared for some street noise if you’re a super light sleeper – but honestly, that’s part of the charm of staying right in the heart of things.

1 floor lamp was held up by sellotape and actually collapsedFor us, it was worth the location, but lines between charm and uncomfortable are definitely blurred here. People should – Bethany from United States – 29 November 2024 (6/10)
Perfect location next to the Cathedral. Washer and dryer was nice to have.
What could be improved: Dirty and uncomfortable sofa, uncomfortable beds. – Thomas from France – 7 October 2024 (8/10)
L'emplacement imbattable effectivement !
– Montserrat from Spain – 23 August 2024 (8/10)
Molt recomanable.
What could be improved: No hem sabut engegar la televisió, i faltaria un petit lavabo a la tercera planta.Superb – Anne from Germany – 4 November 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: Aufzug und Spülmaschine defektSchöne Wohnung, absolut exzellenter Münsterblick – Udo from Germany – 13 August 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: —Superb – Diana from Colombia – 21 July 2024 (9/10)
Buena ubicación.
What could be improved: En verano se calienta mucho, y los ventiladores están dañados.Gestion d’appartement scandaleuse – Patrice from Switzerland – 20 October 2024 (2/10)
L’emplacement
Very good – Pierre from France – 19 December 2024 (8/10)
