Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of hotels in Strasbourg, and honestly? CityCosy Authentique Batelier surprised me. The name’s a bit of a mouthful – I mean, who came up with that combination – but the location on Quai des Bateliers is actually brilliant. You’re literally right along the Ill River, and I’m talking proper waterfront here, not some distant view through construction cranes.

The building itself has this authentic Alsatian charm that doesn’t feel forced or touristy. You know how some places try too hard to be “authentic”? This isn’t that. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable, nothing fancy but everything works. What I really appreciated was how quiet it was at night, which honestly shocked me given you’re right in the city center. The windows must be decent quality because even with the occasional late-night reveler wandering along the quai, I slept fine. The staff actually knows the area too – when I asked about getting to Petite France early in the morning to avoid crowds, the guy at reception gave me this whole route that locals use, cutting through some side streets I never would’ve found on my own.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place: you can walk to the cathedral in maybe ten minutes, but you’re far enough from the main tourist circus that you feel like you’re staying somewhere real Strasbourgeois people might actually live. There’s this little bakery – Boulangerie something-or-other – literally two doors down that does these incredible kougelhopf, and the morning I was there, I watched the baker through the window starting his day at some ungodly hour. That’s the kind of detail that makes a trip memorable, you know? Plus, if you’re planning to explore beyond Strasbourg (and you should), the tram stop is right there, and parking – well, it’s city center parking, so expect to pay, but at least you’re not circling blocks looking for a spot. The 8.8 rating makes sense to me; it’s not luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  The location is Great. On a pedestrian zone, few min walk to the cathedral district, 1 min walk from a parking house and 5 min walk to the tram. The flat looks like on the pictures, the decor is pretty. The check-in was easy.
  
  What could be improved: The bed is squeaky and not very comfortable. It’s an old house and the isolation is not the best, especially as the neighbours enjoy late night chats. The bathroom might not be suitable for guests with some mobility issues (not a flaw, just something the potential guests should be aware of). The cleaning might be more detailed. There was lots of dust when we arrived.
