Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “CHIC – Proche Hypercentre – Rénové – Lumineux” I thought it was trying way too hard. But you know what? It actually delivers on all those promises, which honestly surprised me a bit.

The location on Rue Spielmann is one of those perfect spots that locals appreciate but tourists often stumble upon by accident. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Place Kléber (the main square everyone talks about), but you’re tucked away enough that you won’t hear drunk groups wandering back from the Christmas markets at 2 AM. I mean, during December the whole city center turns into this magical chaos, and being just far enough from the epicenter makes a real difference for your sleep. The tram stop at République is right there too – super handy if you want to explore beyond the cathedral area or head out to the European Parliament district.

What struck me most was how they handled the renovation. The rooms actually feel lumineux (bright) like the name promises, which is no small feat in these old Strasbourg buildings where windows are often tiny. They’ve got this clever thing going where the white walls and strategic mirrors make everything feel more spacious than it probably is. The bathroom was completely redone – none of that weird half-updated situation you sometimes get where they renovate the bedroom but leave you with 1980s tiles in the shower. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no trying to upsell you on breakfast packages or city tours. The staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood well, which matters more than you’d think when you need restaurant recommendations that aren’t just tourist traps.

Here’s something I appreciated – parking in Strasbourg’s center is honestly a nightmare, but they’ll point you toward the nearby République parking garage without making you feel stupid for not knowing about it already. The rooms stay pretty quiet even though you’re in the city center, probably because Rue Spielmann doesn’t get much through traffic. I stayed during a busy weekend in summer and could still open the windows at night without regretting it. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the most luxurious place in Strasbourg, but it nails the fundamentals really well. Clean, comfortable, actually renovated (not just “refreshed”), and positioned so you can walk to the good stuff without being in the middle of all the noise. For a 4-star place, it feels honest about what it is, which I’d take over an overpromising 5-star any day.

  Spacious apartment. Comfortable bed and good shower room. Well equipped kitchen. 15 minute walk to centre of old town. Straightforward 30 minute walk to train station.
  
  What could be improved: Could do with some attention to details as some furnishings a bit tired.
  Tip: check the address of the key collection store. It's only a three-minute walk but we didn't check until we'd arrived at the apartment so had to walk back.

  Very spacious rooms and convenient location.
  
  What could be improved: The entrance glass door was broken and it seems a robbery had happened. The glass debris on the floor stayed during our four days visit. This is not any fault of the apartment owner but of the building management. Anyhow, we felt unsafe for a while.

  Good location. Spacious and bright apartment. Nice bathroom. Comfortable double bed. A lift. All the necesary equipment is there, save for a microwave.
  
  What could be improved: The description „chic and freshly renovated” is a bit of an overstatement; elevated my expectations too much. Clearly an interior designer was not involved in the process. The furniture is basic, rather on the cheap side. Could be cleaner. The dirty marks on the living room sofa were just covered with a rug.

  Everything is near and walkable to it’s tourist attractions. It is also near to tram station and supermarket. It is a quiet neighborhood yet near to places you wanted to visit. Very spacious apartment and clean. The owner can easily be reached by email and responds quickly to any querries. We loved the christmas tree that was decorated in the living room.
