Hotel Description
You know that moment when you stumble across a hotel that’s trying to do something completely different? That’s exactly what happened when I found this little gem tucked away on Rue du Fossé-des-Tanneurs in Petite France. The name’s a mouthful – Chic Bauhaus à Petite France Evasion et Design – but honestly, it tells you everything you need to know. Someone decided to drop clean, modernist design right into the heart of Strasbourg’s most medieval neighborhood, and somehow… it actually works.
The location is what got me first. I mean, you’re literally steps from those postcard-perfect half-timbered houses and the covered bridges that everyone comes to see, but you’re staying in what feels like a sleek urban loft. The contrast is kind of wild – you’ll walk past tourists snapping photos of 16th-century buildings all day, then come back to minimalist furniture and geometric patterns. The Fossé-des-Tanneurs itself is this narrow cobblestone street that winds through the old tanner’s quarter, and while it gets busy during the day with people heading to the cathedral or the boat tours, it quiets down beautifully at night. Pro tip: the street can be tricky to find if you’re driving – I’d honestly recommend just parking at one of the lots near Place Kléber and walking the ten minutes through the old town.
What really won me over, though, was how thoughtfully they’ve done everything. The rooms have this crisp, architectural feel – lots of white space, clean lines, really good lighting – but they haven’t forgotten the practical stuff. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given with design-focused places), and there’s actually enough storage space for your things. The bathrooms lean into that Bauhaus aesthetic with interesting tile work and fixtures that look like they belong in a design magazine, but the water pressure is solid and everything functions the way it should. You can hear a bit of street noise during busy times – it’s the old quarter, after everything – but nothing that decent windows can’t handle. The staff seems to get what they’re going for here too; check-in was smooth and they had good recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps.
I’ll be honest, this isn’t the place if you want traditional Alsatian charm with exposed beams and floral wallpaper. But if you appreciate good design and want to experience Strasbourg’s historic center from a completely fresh perspective, it’s pretty brilliant. The 8.9 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well. Plus, you’re genuinely in the best part of the city for exploring on foot, whether you’re heading to the European Parliament buildings or just wandering the canal-side paths early in the morning before the crowds show up.

Très bel appartement – Martine from Switzerland – 26 March 2025 (9/10)
– Nadine from Germany – 26 March 2025 (10/10)

Superb – Tarık from Turkey – 11 May 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: Es waren zu wenig Handtücher für die gebuchte Personenanzahl vorhanden. Passable – Luis from Mexico – 8 June 2025 (5/10)
