Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name “Chez Françoise,” I was expecting some quaint little B&B run by someone’s grandmother. What I found on Impasse de la Grande Boucherie was actually something much more interesting. This narrow little street (and I mean narrow – you’d miss it if you weren’t looking) sits right in the heart of Strasbourg’s old town, literally a two-minute walk from the cathedral. You know that moment when you step out of a busy tourist area and suddenly find yourself on a quiet cobblestone lane? That’s exactly what this feels like, except you’re still basically in the center of everything.

The “vue cathédrale” part isn’t marketing fluff – depending on which room you get, you really can glimpse those famous spires from your window. I mean, you might have to crane your neck a bit, but it’s there. What struck me most about staying here was how the morning light hits those old half-timbered buildings across the way, especially if you’re up early enough to beat the tour groups. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place – clean, comfortable, nothing fancy but everything works. Actually, the shower pressure was surprisingly good, which honestly matters more than fancy toiletries when you’ve been walking around cobblestones all day. The décor leans into that Alsatian charm without going overboard – think warm woods and traditional touches that feel authentic rather than themed.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the location puts you close enough to hear the cathedral bells (which is magical at first, less so at 6 AM if you’re a light sleeper), but the little impasse stays surprisingly quiet at night. Parking is… well, it’s Strasbourg’s old town, so forget about it. But honestly, once you’re there, you won’t need a car anyway. Place Kléber is maybe a five-minute walk, and you can easily wander over to Petite France or along the Ill River without breaking a sweat. The 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away with luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying in a real neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble, this works perfectly. Just don’t expect a big lobby or concierge service – this is more about location and character than amenities.

  What could be improved: They took €500 as a guarantee, but normally they only take it if something in the apartment is damaged. They’re supposed to return it after a week, though that’s not usually how it works. The space is large, but it feels smaller due to unnecessary furniture.

  Great location inside a block of old houses near the river Ill's bank and in the very center of the historical downtown. Easy access explained an hour before the check in. 3rd floor ( = not convenient for people with knee troubles.) View to the back yard and on the roofs with the top of the cathedral's tower. Romantic sound of cathedral's bells. A comfortable bed.
  
  What could be improved: Very little space around the double bed. Not comfortable to use the kitchen dust bin (hidden inside the cupboard). A bit cold by the windows (just a single glass pane). Not ergonomicaly designed bathroom. A very narrow access to a very small shower. Not suitable for bigger people or pregnant ladies. Missing towel hooks by the shower. The existing one was not possible to use due to its loose fix and sloping angle. Too many decorations everywhere, therefore limited space for personal use. I would take out the armchair and at least half of the decorations to add more space and better use of the main room. Sound from the neighbouring appartments easy to hear.

  What could be improved: – Stressful pre-arrival procedure. A deposit needs to be paid and I got plenty of reminders, but once the deposit had been paid, the bureau that manages the flat disappeared. I had to ring to get information that was supposed to be sent in the morning on the day of arrival. I finally received it a couple of hours before check-in (14:48 when check-in was at 16:00!). It was also confusing and irritating to receive offers of earlier check-in and later check-out against a fee.
  – Run down building, shabby corridors. The flat overlooks the cathedral and a shabby backyard. The building is central but also right next to restaurants and a bateau embarcation point and this entails that one gets plenty of smells and sounds from the street.
  – The flat is absolutely clattered with unnecessary things. At least three pieces of furniture and numerous unnecessary pieces of decoration should be removed.
  – There is no leaflet with instructions, so one has to take contact to ask how things work (internet passwords etc.)
