Hotel Description

You know what strikes you first about La Célestine? It’s tucked away on Rue des Planches in a way that feels almost secretive – I mean, you could walk past it if you weren’t looking carefully, but that’s actually part of its charm. This isn’t some massive hotel trying to dominate the street corner; it’s more like staying at the home of that well-traveled friend who has impeccable taste and knows exactly how to make you comfortable without being fussy about it.

The whole place has this authentic Alsatian character that honestly feels refreshing after you’ve seen too many cookie-cutter boutique hotels. The rooms smell faintly of old wood and fresh linens – not in a musty way, but in that good way that makes you think the building has stories to tell. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re right in the heart of Strasbourg’s old town. The owners clearly know what they’re doing when it comes to soundproofing, which is something you don’t always think about until you’re trying to sleep and there’s a group of tourists wandering the cobblestones at midnight.

Speaking of location – and I know everyone says this, but hear me out – you’re literally a five-minute stroll from the cathedral, but more importantly, you’re close enough to duck into those little winstubs (that’s what they call the traditional restaurants here) without having to navigate tourist crowds every time you want dinner. There’s this fantastic bakery just around the corner that locals actually use, not just tourists, and the Saturday market at Place du Marché aux Poissons is close enough that you can smell the fresh bread if the wind’s right. The breakfast situation is solid too – proper coffee, local jams, and they don’t rush you out the door like you’re on some assembly line. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and while I can’t speak to summer crowds, the staff mentioned they keep things intentionally small-scale, which probably means it maintains that intimate feel year-round. Honestly, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re experiencing Strasbourg rather than just checking it off a list, this place gets it right.

  Each room was spacious with modern art deco. 3 faucets and sinks. Host was very helpful with our parking and settling. Breakfast crepes were very tasty. Center town is 15mins walk.

  What a wonderful man Claude was. Our coach to Strasbourg was delayed and didn't arrive until 1am. Claude waited for us to personally greet us at the door. We couldn't thank him enough for such a warm welcome.

  We easily reached the hotel on foot. Our room was quite spacious and had everything we needed. The room, the sheets, the bathroom – everything was very clean. It was a beautiful and cozy hotel, even beyond our expectations. We loved the breakfast, especially the crepes. The kitchen had everything we needed as well.   It was lovely stay! So cozy and quiet room. Separate wardrobe space was a big benefit! The bereakfast was great in a nice home style atmothphere. Everything within walking distance. Private undeground parking is just 300m away. No compains at all! Claude (the host) was so nice and helpful! It was him who suggested us to explore wine road which became one of the most vivid experiences throughout the whole vacation.

  The accomodation is like a short jump in the past, but with everything you need to feel comfortable nowadays. The room is stylishly decorated with traditional items, even an old seem-to-be-working Singer machine is inside. Bathroom modern, clean, with everything you need. Bed very comfortable, also size of our room was great. Breakfast – everything home made, again great. Landlord was extremely friendly so we kind of felt like home even though we only spent the night. Location superb – 200 m or so from old town. Also the parking garage is very close and convinient.
  
  What could be improved: The price, however it is true that we could not find better on such location.
