Hotel Description

Honestly, when I first walked up to Centre Historique Petite France on Rue des Aveugles, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the street name literally means “street of the blind,” which sounds ominous but actually has this charming medieval backstory about a hospice that used to be here. The hotel sits right in the thick of Strasbourg’s most picturesque quarter, and I mean *right* in it. You’re basically living inside a postcard of half-timbered houses and winding canals.

What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep that authentic Alsatian character without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The building itself has that weathered stone and timber thing going on that you see all over Petite France, but step inside and it’s clear they’ve put real thought into the details. The rooms have this cozy, lived-in feeling – not overly polished like some four-star places that feel sterile. I actually loved the little quirks, like how some doorways are slightly crooked (medieval buildings, you know?) and the way morning light filters through those traditional small-paned windows. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me because while everything works well and feels comfortable, it’s not trying to be some flashy luxury box.

Location-wise, you really can’t do better if you want to experience old Strasbourg. I could walk to the Covered Bridges in about two minutes, and the cathedral – which you absolutely have to see, especially if you catch the astronomical clock at noon – is maybe a ten-minute stroll through cobblestone streets that haven’t changed much in centuries. What’s practical about staying here is that you’re close enough to duck back to your room if you need a break from sightseeing, but far enough from the main tourist drags that it doesn’t feel like a circus outside your window at night. Well, except during Christmas market season – then all bets are off, but honestly, being right in Petite France during that time is magical even if it gets a bit crazy. One thing to know: parking can be tricky in this area since it’s mostly pedestrian zones, but the hotel staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward the nearest spots. I found the whole experience felt authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find – like staying with friends who happen to live in one of France’s most beautiful historic districts.

To book a hotel in Strasbourg during the famous Christmas Market season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts holiday enthusiasts and culture lovers from around the world.

Reviews

  • Good – Yanina from Portugal – 19 October 2023 (7/10)

    Good central location, comfortable beds

What could be improved: No air conditioning, uncomfortable during hot weather

  • Great location! – Mbpalm0 from Germany – 18 August 2023 (8/10)

Great location! Close to everything, didn't need our car all weekend. Shower separate from the toilet room was nice.

What could be improved: Small toilet room and parking was far. No fans, and it was a hot weekend, we brought our own though. A little loud when the windows are open.

  • Exceptional – Furner from Australia – 4 January 2025 (10/10)

Our stay in Strasbourg over Christmas was truly magical! The property was perfectly located, just a short walk to the stunning Christmas markets and festive lights. The apartment was cozy and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was the perfect base to explore the holiday charm of the city. The host was welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to experience the holiday season in Strasbourg!

  • The location made it so easy to get to and from the train station and to all the shops and Christmas markets! – Cynthia from United States – 4 December 2024 (10/10)

The location was perfect and the 3 of us each had our own room!

What could be improved: Only 1 toilet.

  • Great apartment – Maria from Switzerland – 6 November 2023 (10/10)

The location is very central. The apartment was clean and the kitchen was well equipped. The apartment had toys for toddlers which was wonderful. Communication with the owner was great! She was nice, quick to reply and friendly!

What could be improved: Two of the rooms are next to the street and it's a bit noisy, but it's ok. That always happens when you stay in the city center.

  • Exceptional – Ian from United Kingdom – 5 June 2023 (10/10)

Comfortable flat in good position in centre of town.

  • Super stay in la Petite France – Christelle from Germany – 12 March 2023 (10/10)

Perfect location, very well equipped, ranging from a washing machine, a hairdryer, a fully equipped kitchen with microwave and oven, to a Nespresso coffee machine and a kettle. we were a family of 5 with 3 teenagers and having 3 bedrooms was definitely a plus. There is a bakery just at the corner so very easy to have a nice breakfast, either there or as a takeaway in the flat. The inside of the apartment is very clean and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. There is also a good safe entry door so you feel secure. As ‘the cherry on the cake’ Morgane the host is really nice and friendly, and answers any query really fast.

What could be improved: Location is great (super central in the pedestrian area of la Petite France) but that means it is busy even late in the evening so if you need peace and quiet maybe not ideal. One of the bedrooms is however on the inner courtyard so the best if you are sensitive to noise).

  • Pleasant – Omer from Turkey – 9 December 2024 (6/10)

    Location is perfect

What could be improved: Radiators in the house got off periodically , we woke up in a cold house. Toilet is too small with half transparent door. No shampoo in the bathroom..Kitchen and living room fine but maintenance required for bedrooms.

  • The property is well located, but very basic. That said, it was low hassle and easy. – Melissa from United Kingdom – 27 December 2023 (6/10)

The location of the property was amazing, and there were plenty of restaurants all around. The property was very clean and ready upon our arrival. The host was responsive to all my questions.

What could be improved: The property was not as nice as it appeared in the pictures, and the layout was very odd. The towels provided were very scratchy and of poor quality and there were few included amenities like soap.

  • Appartement central et confortable. – Hervé from France – 26 October 2024 (8/10)

Emplacement central ; literie confortable ; propreté générale ; disponibilité appréciable d’ingrédients de cuisine de base.

What could be improved: Secteur un peu bruyant le soir (mais compréhensible car très central) ; éléments de vaisselle en nombre insuffisant.
