Hotel Description

You know that moment when you stumble onto a street in Strasbourg and think “wait, people actually live here?” That’s exactly what happened when I found Carpe Diem Home on rue des Orfèvres. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the cathedral – and I’m talking about the real deal, not some tourist trap version of “close to attractions.” You’ll hear the bells if your windows are open, which honestly becomes this oddly comforting soundtrack to your morning coffee.

The place itself feels like someone’s stylish aunt decided to rent out her perfectly curated apartment. It’s got that 4-star polish without feeling stuffy or corporate, you know? The rooms have this lived-in elegance – think exposed beams and modern touches that actually work together instead of fighting each other. What really got me was the attention to small stuff that most places completely miss. The lighting is actually good (revolutionary concept, I know), and there’s real thought put into where you’d want to plug in your phone or set down your wine glass. The bathroom situation is solid too – proper water pressure and space to spread out your toiletries without everything falling into the sink.

Location-wise, you’re in the sweet spot of Petite France without the tourist chaos that hits places like Pont Couvert during peak season. Rue des Orfèvres has this perfect morning quiet where you can grab coffee and pastries from the local boulangerie before the day-trippers arrive. I actually ended up chatting with neighbors on my way out – that’s how residential and authentic this little pocket feels. The cathedral views from certain angles are pretty spectacular, and you’re walking distance to all the good stuff without being right in the middle of the summer crowds. Parking can be a bit of a dance if you’re driving (welcome to Strasbourg), but honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need a car anyway. The whole old town becomes your neighborhood, and there’s something really special about coming “home” to this quiet street after a day of wandering around the Christmas markets or exploring the European Quarter.

The apartment is perfectly furnished, impeccably clean, and in a fantastic location, right in the heart of Strasbourg. Chantal, the host, gave excellent tips and advice about the city. The apartment even has air-conditioning in the bedrooms, which was brilliant on a couple of unusually hot days. Totally recommended.

The kitchen was prestocked with tea and coffee making supplies which we really appreciated.

  • Unforgettable stay in the heart of Strasbourg – Selim from Turkey – 3 May 2025 (10/10)

Excellent stay in every way, from the unbeatable location and views to the facilities. A very decent sized supermarket (Auchan) was just around the corner as well as several excellent boulangeries. Communication with the host was very good, with any questions swiftly answered and great recommendations offered. Check-in was quick and easy with the door codes provided.

What could be improved: One has to keep in mind that this is a triplex apartment that can be reached after four flights of steps. So, it may not be suitable for any travellers with mobility issues or for parties with heavy luggage.
