Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Des XV? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it sits right on Rue du Conseil des Quinze, which translates to “Council of Fifteen Street,” and honestly, there’s something kind of regal about the whole place that fits with that historical reference. I mean, Strasbourg’s old town is full of these narrow cobblestone streets with stories, but this particular corner feels especially tucked away from the tourist crowds that swarm around the cathedral.

The building itself is this gorgeous blend of Alsatian architecture with seriously thoughtful modern touches inside. When you walk through the front door, there’s this immediate sense of calm – maybe it’s the way they’ve used warm wood tones with crisp white linens, or how the lobby actually smells faintly of lavender instead of that generic hotel air freshener. The rooms are what I’d call “small but smart” – typical for European boutique hotels, but everything has its place, and the beds are honestly some of the most comfortable I’ve slept in. The bathrooms surprised me too; they managed to fit in these rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure (you’d be amazed how often that’s not the case in historic buildings).

What really sets this place apart though is the location knowledge the staff has. The woman at reception – I think her name was Claire – didn’t just point me toward Petite France like every other hotel would. She mentioned this little wine bar called Les Haras that’s maybe a seven-minute walk away, tucked behind Place Kléber where you’d never find it on your own. And she was right about the morning routine too – if you head out around 8 AM, you can grab coffee and a proper croissant at the boulangerie on Rue des Juifs before the breakfast crowd hits, then loop back through Place Gutenberg when it’s still quiet. The hotel serves breakfast, but honestly? The local morning ritual is half the fun of staying in this neighborhood. Parking can be a bit tricky since you’re right in the historic center, but there’s a public garage about three blocks away on Rue du 22 Novembre – not the closest, but way cheaper than hotel parking and the walk takes you past some beautiful old timber-framed houses. I stayed there in late September and the whole area was perfect for evening strolls, though I imagine it gets pretty busy during Christmas market season. The 8.9 rating feels spot-on; it’s the kind of place that gets the big things right while nailing those small details that make you want to come back to Strasbourg just to stay there again.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Strasbourg through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich Franco-German heritage.

Reviews

  • Beautiful boutique hotel – Lyra1606 from United Kingdom – 2 July 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is delightful and all staff were extremely friendly. The rooms are relatively small as you'd expect for a city hotel, but they have all the amenities you'd want and we felt it was excellent value for money. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was kitted out brilliantly. The bathroom was lovely and we appreciated all the toiletries.

What could be improved: Nothing that I can think of. We stayed there twice on our road trip as had such a great experience on the first visit. I'd definitely stay there again if I were to travel to Strasbourg again.
