You know what caught me off guard about Balcon Secret? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it really does feel like stumbling onto someone’s well-kept secret tucked away on Rue du Fil. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the cathedral (hence the name), but somehow this little street feels completely removed from all the tourist chaos swirling around the old town.

The building itself has that classic Strasbourg thing going on – you know, those timber-framed facades that look like they’ve been holding up the neighborhood for centuries. Inside though, it’s honestly a bit of a mixed bag. The rooms are clean and perfectly decent for a 3-star, but don’t expect anything too fancy. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which is actually pretty remarkable considering you’re in the heart of everything. The windows do a solid job blocking out street noise, and Rue du Fil isn’t exactly a major thoroughfare anyway – mostly just locals cutting through and the occasional lost tourist with their phone map out.

Here’s the thing that’ll either make or break your stay: parking is going to be an adventure. There’s no hotel lot, so you’re looking at street parking (good luck) or one of the public garages nearby. I ended up at Parking Gutenberg, which is maybe a five-minute walk but costs about what you’d expect in central Strasbourg. The staff at check-in was pretty helpful about explaining the options though – they clearly get asked about this constantly. What really won me over was the location’s practical magic. You can walk to Petite France in ten minutes, hit up the Christmas markets (if you’re there in season) without fighting crowds to get back to your room, and there’s this excellent little boulangerie right around the corner on Rue des Frères that locals actually use. The 7.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away with luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. Honestly, for the price point and being this close to the cathedral without the tourist trap markup, it’s a pretty solid choice if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with a bit of character rather than another generic hotel chain.

  Location was good, could walk to all attractions.Everything needed was there. Well equipped.
  
  What could be improved: Some neighbours were a bit loud.
  All windows open towards same space.The bath/shower could be changed to a shower only, as it is a bit uncomfortable.

  L’emplacement de l’appartement est centrale et le quartier est calme.
  L’appartement était propre et le linge de lit et de bain sont les mêmes que les professionnels de l’hôtellerie. C’est agréable!

  La proximité de beaucoup de centres d intérêts, se situe derrière la cathédrale… tram à proximité ….
  Idéal pour le shopping aussi, les restaurants ou courses alimentaires. La terrasse est un grand plus, elle est grande et sécurisée. Literie excellente, décoration très soignée. Identique à la description sur booking.
  
  What could be improved: C est la deuxième fois que nous louons ce studio, la 1ere fois une semaine en mars 2024 et cette 2ème fois 4 nuits en juin 2025, nous avons eu deux jours de très grosse chaleur qui nous a empêché de dormir et malheureusement nous avons vu le jour de notre départ qu il y avait un grand ventilateur dans la placard.

  What could be improved: Het is klein en hokkerig. Het bed is niet comfortabel doordat je er in moet kruipen. De plafonds zijn heel laag. Het balkon bereik je door uit een raam te klimmen.

  Prinzipiell alles vorhanden, was für einen Kurzaufenthalt benötigt wird.
  
  What could be improved: Beim Betreten der Wohnung roch es nach Rauch, auf dem Ballon befand sich ein benutzer Aschenbecher. Wohnung deutlich kleiner als Fotos sie erscheinen lassen. Balkon nur über Fenster zu betreten, das Bett ist sehr schmal und das Interieur schon recht abgenutzt sowie nicht ganz sauber. Zudem ist die Gegend nicht ganz sicher.
