Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about this place? The moment you climb up to this attic duplex on rue Sainte-Hélène, you actually feel like you’re staying in someone’s clever Strasbourg hideaway rather than just another hotel room. I mean, it’s tucked right into the old part of the city – and when I say old, I’m talking about those narrow cobblestone streets where you can practically touch the buildings on both sides if you stretch your arms out.
The duplex setup is honestly pretty smart. Downstairs you’ve got your living area with these slanted ceilings that make everything feel cozy (though tall folks might want to watch their heads near the windows), and upstairs there’s the bedroom tucked under the eaves. It’s got that authentic Alsatian charm without being too precious about it, if you know what I mean. The 7.7 rating makes sense – it’s not going to blow you away with luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises. The place feels lived-in in the best way, like your friend who has great taste let you crash at their apartment.
What I really appreciated was how walkable everything is from rue Sainte-Hélène. You’re maybe ten minutes on foot to the cathedral (you’ll hear the bells, which is either charming or annoying depending on how you feel about being woken up at 7 AM), and the Petite France area is close enough that you’ll probably wander over there multiple times. The street itself is quiet enough that you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling around at midnight, but you’re still right in the thick of things. Parking is – well, it’s Strasbourg’s old quarter, so good luck with that. Honestly, just take the tram or walk everywhere. The whole city center is basically designed for wandering anyway, and you’ll spend half your time getting delightfully lost in those winding medieval streets. I found myself ducking into little wine bars and bakeries I never would have discovered if I’d been staying out in some modern hotel district. There’s this tiny fromagerie about two blocks away that the owner recommended, and I ended up going back three times because their munster cheese was incredible. That’s the kind of thing that happens when you stay somewhere that actually feels connected to the neighborhood instead of isolated from it.
Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Strasbourg through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich Franco-German heritage.

What could be improved: N/AWarm and cozy, while slightly uncomfortable. – Christopher from United States – 19 December 2024 (8/10)
Very charming. The old beams and the exterior of the home as well as the layout were wonderful.
What could be improved: There were only three towels left for our family of five and we also could not locate any coffee to use in the machines provided. Two of the four beds were futons, which wasn’t too bad, but more was expected for the price.Don't Pass Up this Historic Charmer! – Mdscrutono from United States – 5 April 2024 (10/10)
First of all, Strausburg is beautiful! This was our first time and we were taken back by the architecture, artwork, food, people and of course our stay at Large Attic Duplex. Some of the timbers are low and we would laugh when one of our head's met the wooden beam; however, we learned the duck shuffle and truly enjoyed our stay. The Duplex is tucked right into the center of the historic district, filled with restaurants, shopping, food, wine, beer and all of the good Strausburg City Life that you are looking to find. We were up late, then woke up early and tried to be part of the lifestyle that was offered. When we come back, we will look for this property, again, and book it!
What could be improved: Property was exactly as described, enjoyable, perfectly located and we felt lucky to stay!Quaint, cozy, but creaky. – Travis from Indonesia – 23 February 2024 (10/10)
The space itself was perfect for a family of five, with enough privacy and open space to keep everyone happy. The directions given for picking up the key were easy to follow, and we had no problem checking in or out. We really liked the feel of the flat as well as the location!
What could be improved: Since noise travels so easily through the building, be aware of this when travelling with children as the neighbours can apparently feel every step taken in the flat. I would recommend making this more explicit in initial description so that families with energetic co-travelers know what to expect and can better decide whether or not this flat is a good choice for them or the poor neighbours.Embarrassed to bring another couple here with us. Absolutely frustrating to get into the place. Practically had to sleep – Susan from United States – 18 December 2023 (4/10)
Location adequate
What could be improved: Had to park outside the city and walk a mile after determining none of the bridges were open. Very difficult to get the key had to use codes to get in one place then go to the apt in another place. The floor was peeling back as was the ceiling. Ceiling too low and so easy to bump your head.Stay somewhere else if can – Scott from United States – 3 January 2025 (3/10)
The location was fantastic in heart of city
And the hosts were very friendly and kind
What could be improved: Dirty, don’t think changed sheets in between guests and found dirty used nose pads next to bed, so dirty everyone slept in clothes and no one used the showerIdéal pour visiter Strasbourg en famille – Céline from France – 28 December 2024 (8/10)
– Nathalie from Switzerland – 24 February 2024 (7/10)
Emplacement, literie
What could be improved: Escaliers étroits et raides pour y accéder, hauteur et décrochements multiples et variables des plafonds.
