You know what struck me first about Appartement Saint Thomas Prestige? The name actually makes sense once you’re standing in Place Saint Thomas – this isn’t some marketing fluff. The building sits right on this charming little square that most tourists completely miss, even though they’re probably walking past it on their way to the cathedral. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute stroll from Strasbourg’s main attractions, but somehow you feel like you’ve discovered this quiet pocket that belongs to the locals.

The apartments themselves – and they really are proper apartments, not hotel rooms trying to be fancy – have this interesting mix of old Strasbourg character with genuinely modern touches that actually work. The windows are these beautiful tall French ones that let in incredible light (assuming you’re not visiting during one of those gray Alsatian winters), and honestly, the kitchen setups are better than what I have at home. I stayed in October when the square gets these golden afternoon shadows, and you could hear the gentle hum of neighborhood life – kids playing, the occasional bike bell, that sort of thing – without any of the tourist chaos from Grande Île proper. The Wi-Fi was solid, which matters when you’re trying to figure out which winstub to hit for dinner.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to get that travelers want local insights, not generic recommendations. They pointed me toward Rue des Dentelles for morning coffee (skip the touristy spots near the cathedral), and mentioned that the Saturday market at Place du Marché aux Poissons was worth the early wake-up call. Parking can be a bit tricky – well, it’s Strasbourg, so that’s hardly surprising – but they have arrangements that actually help rather than just shrugging and saying “good luck.” The 8.5 rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but it delivers on what it promises with some genuinely thoughtful touches. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Strasbourg rather than just passing through, and you don’t need someone making your bed every day, this place gets it right. Plus, being on Place Saint Thomas means you’re close enough to duck back if you forget something, but far enough from the madness that you can actually get some sleep.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Strasbourg at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak December season when the city hosts its world-famous Christmas celebrations.

  What could be improved: Problems with exiting front doors: the mechanical locking system was not installed in a user-friendly way. Glass in one entry door was cracked (Ithink)because of this confusing setup.

  Location was good for walking around picturesque old town. Close to restaurants and shops.
  Retro modern fitout in an old bank building was quirky. Pretty church opposite.

  What could be improved: Metal stairs up to bedroom on mezzanine level were slippery and difficult for me to climb while carrying bags or suitcase.
  Metal roller shutter screen over windows made the place dark and it was clunky and noisy to open and shut.
  Lack of soft furnishings made it noisy moving around in the apartment. Kettle was annoyingly noisy.
  You could hear people talking when they walked by if window open.
  Front door lock was difficult to latch and unlock.

  We enjoyed staying in the city center. The apartment is spacious with unique architecture and is located in a historic building. Check-in was easy with an entry code and lockbox.
  We didn't mind that there were stairs to enter the building and get to the bedroom, but those with limited mobility would likely have issues.
  
  What could be improved: The cleanliness of the apartment was quite lacking- the toilet was dirty with splatters of human excrement, the dishes and silverware were covered in food residue, the washing machine interior had a substantial amount of pet hair (and ended up not even working), and when I wiped up some water droplets from the floor the tissue came up brown.
  
  Much of the furniture felt very cheap and the kitchen barstool would suddenly drop in height while you were sitting on it. The comments about street noise are accurate- we were awakened by trash collection early each morning even with our white noise machine on.
  
  This was one of the higher priced options we had looked at and it was unfortunately not worth it. If they could fix the cleanliness and quality/safety issues it would probably be easy to look past the other issues, but for now we plan to stay at the Maison Rouge or go over to Roser Suiten in Gengenbach (our favorite, less expensive, and comes with a KONUS card) next time we're in the area.
