Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about this little apartment on Rue Sainte-Madeleine? The street itself – it’s one of those narrow cobblestone lanes that feels properly European, but without the tourist circus you get closer to the cathedral. I mean, you’re still right in Strasbourg’s heart, just tucked away enough that you’re not dodging selfie sticks every morning.

The apartment actually lives up to that “cosy” promise in its name. It’s got that lived-in warmth that’s hard to fake – think exposed beams, soft lighting that doesn’t feel like a dentist’s office, and furniture that someone clearly chose because they liked it, not because it matched a hotel chain’s playbook. The kitchen’s properly equipped too, which honestly surprised me. Most places give you a sad mini-fridge and call it kitchenette, but here you could actually cook something decent if you hit up the Saturday market at Place du Marché aux Poissons (about a five-minute walk, by the way).

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. During the day, sure, you’ll hear some foot traffic and the occasional delivery truck navigating those narrow streets, but come evening it settles into this peaceful hum. The windows face away from the main thoroughfares – Place Kléber and all that – so you’re not dealing with late-night revelers stumbling back from the winstubs. Speaking of which, Au Pont Corbeau is literally around the corner, and if you haven’t had their choucroute, well… that’s sort of the whole point of being in Alsace, isn’t it?

The check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that “we’ll email you seventeen codes” nonsense some places pull now. The host actually seemed to know the neighborhood, gave me the real scoop on parking (spoiler: forget driving in the old town, just use the Parking Sainte-Marguerite and walk the ten minutes). They also mentioned which grocery store stays open latest (the Monoprix on Rue des Grandes Arcades) and honestly, these little details matter when you’re trying to feel less like a tourist stumbling around.

I’ll be straight with you – it’s not fancy. There’s no gym, no room service, no marble anything. But that 8.9 rating makes sense when you realize what you’re actually getting: a genuine slice of Strasbourg life in a building that’s probably seen more history than most museums. The WiFi works, the shower has proper water pressure, and you’re close enough to everything that matters without paying cathedral-view prices. Plus, if you time it right during the Christmas markets season, you’re perfectly positioned to duck in and warm up between wandering the stalls – though good luck booking it then, everyone’s figured out this little secret by now.

Visitors often choose Strasbourg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent European capital.

Reviews

  • Superb – Debbie from New Zealand – 23 July 2025 (9/10)

We loved the apartment and it was so central. Great communication with owners and easy check in.

What could be improved: Neighbours really noisy and disruptive until late every night.

  • Superb – Ingo from Germany – 21 June 2025 (9/10)

A truly historic building in a young neighborhood. All you need for holidays or work.

What could be improved: It was all good, really, but be prepared to carry your luggage through a rather narrow staircase.

  • Small apartment but has everything you need and great location! – Margaret from New Zealand – 16 May 2025 (8/10)

Great location near the river and not far from the Cathedral. Quiet location at night. Good shower, although very small bathroom. Had all we needed. Good books to look at!

What could be improved: Narrow winding staircase to carry our bags up! No lifts!

  • Comfortable and perfect location. – Torsten from Germany – 23 March 2025 (8/10)

The location of the apartment is absolutely central an all attractions can be reached within a view minutes with a comfortable walk.
The kitchen is equipped with all necessary to have a small meal.
We would come back any time.

What could be improved: We don’t really disliked this but think it is a comment worth. The stairs to the apartment (2nd floor) are very small as well das the bath room door.

  • Superb – Péter from Germany – 13 March 2025 (9/10)

The apartment looks really nice and it has a very good location, direct at the city center and at the river. The owner who was waiting on us with the keys is also very kind and relaxed. We had a good and relaxed time there.

  • Perfect location for your stay – Mohamed from Egypt – 11 November 2024 (10/10)

The apartment is cozy in an old building which we prefer near to strasbourg cathedral and the old city in a perfect location.
The apartment was very clean and having all facilities to cook your own food.
Cristian was kind and helpful and the checkin and out was very smooth.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Lovely place, lovely city. – Danielle from United Kingdom – 31 July 2024 (9/10)

The picture do not do the living room justice- it’s lovely and quirky. The books are a nice touch. The street where the apartment is located is excellent and it is literally 1 minute away from the canal. We loved the city and all its cyclists so thank you for the use of the two bikes. There was no aircon and it was very hot but I was aware of this prior and the fan did help. The hosts provided all necessary information to enjoy a comfortable stay.

What could be improved: Person living above the apartment was very noisy after 1am, perhaps they were just walking above us but the floorboards were very creaky. It wouldn’t stop me from staying again, next time I’ll just bring earbuds.

  • Exceptional – Irena from Czech Republic – 7 July 2024 (10/10)

The house and the location of the apartment is absolutely exceptional. Excellent communication with the owner. Possibility of parking very close. Everything met my expectations.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Perfect location for a short stay in Strasbourg, cute little studio. – Sharon from Australia – 14 June 2024 (8/10)

Perfect location for a short stay in Strasbourg. Within walking distance of all that Strasbourg has to offer. Great communication with owners.

What could be improved: The bed could be updated. We also turned the bed around so that it wasn’t against the wall, far more convenient and comfortable without taking up too much room space. The bathroom was small but functional.

  • Everything is great 🙂 – Kai from Germany – 27 May 2024 (10/10)

The room is really clean also it's close to everything.
