Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about A L’Horizon? The name actually makes sense when you see it – this little studio sits right on Quai Kléber with these surprisingly nice river views that honestly make you forget you’re staying in what’s basically a compact apartment setup. I mean, it’s not fancy (we’re talking 3-star territory here), but there’s something genuinely charming about waking up and seeing the Ill river doing its thing below your window. The location is pretty sweet if you know Strasbourg at all – you’re literally a five-minute walk from Place Kléber, and the cathedral’s close enough that you’ll hear the bells (which is either romantic or annoying depending on how jet-lagged you are).

The studio itself is… well, it’s small, but cleverly done. Whoever designed this place actually thought about how real people use space, you know? The kitchenette has everything you need if you want to grab groceries from the Monoprix nearby instead of eating out every meal – and honestly, with Strasbourg’s restaurant prices, you might want to. The bed’s comfortable enough, though the whole place can feel a bit cramped if you’re traveling with lots of luggage. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being right in the city center – those old Alsatian buildings have thick walls, I guess. The 7.2 rating feels about right… it’s not going to blow you away, but it does what it promises without any major disappointments.

Here’s the thing that makes this place work: it’s genuinely local. You’re not in some sterile hotel district – you’re on a real street where actual Strasbourg residents live and work. The bakery around the corner on Rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-Poissons (yeah, that’s a mouthful) makes incredible kouglof, and there’s this little wine bar called Au Pont Corbeau just down the way that tourists somehow never find. Parking’s going to be your biggest headache – street spots are basically impossible, and the nearest garage is a bit of a walk, but that’s Strasbourg for you. Check-in was smooth enough, though you’ll need to coordinate timing since it’s not a traditional hotel setup. If you’re the type who wants room service and a concierge, this isn’t your place. But if you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Strasbourg rather than just visiting it – and you don’t mind doing your own dishes – this little studio delivers on that promise pretty well.

Reviews

  • It’s fine, but that’s about it – John from Canada – 6 January 2025 (7/10)

The property was clean and the location was convenient to the Christmas markets that we wanted to visit.

What could be improved: While the property was clean, it smelled like spices.

Room took a long time to warm up.

Shower – hard pressure that stings, hose leaks, water leaks out of shower, water would go from super hot to warm without touching the faucet.

Given the number of rules this place has, I expected better.

    Water/bathroom also smelled like sewage.

    Check in / out
Checkin was fine given we are coming from train station but checking out – why would anyone want to walk 10 min to drop off key? There is a severe lack of convenience with this.

Even in the build up to this trip, the management company sent me a link to a 3rd party site to make a payment. I questioned this and they said this is how they do things. So I contacted booking.com and they handled it. The management company felt very robotic and sent out generic communications that aren’t entirely personalized to the property at hand. I even got an email saying that they acknowledge that I would check out before 11am. I never informed them of this, and I would check out by 11 given that is check out time.

  • There's room for improvement in this one room apartment – Adrian from Romania – 4 February 2024 (7/10)

Cleanliness; mattress; decent size of the shower cabin and good water pressure; location

What could be improved: Foul-smelling sewerage in the bathroom; noisy heating system; bulky, rigid, synthetic pillows; taking out the trash (which should be included in cleening fee) in a creepy, labyrinthic basement; collection and drop off of the keys from a hotel 750 m away, open 8 am – 8 pm only; inflexible check-in/out times; lack of luggage storage facilities before check-in or after check-out

  • Superb – Cathie from Australia – 8 May 2025 (9/10)

    It was clean and comfortable

What could be improved: It would be better if the lock box for the keys was in the lobby of the building

  • Exceptional – Li-yun from Taiwan – 31 May 2024 (10/10)

    Everything is perfect!

    What could be improved: Nope

  • Studio with a view – Daniel from Belgium – 18 January 2024 (9/10)

A cute studio, a comfortable bed, a kitchenette at a central location between the old centre and the train station. And the view to the Vosges mountains.

  • Passable – Ahmed from Iraq – 21 July 2024 (5/10)

    The flat was good

What could be improved: I didn't like collecting and returning the key from Graffalgar hotel, which was difficult for us to go to different placed for collecting the key while coming from a hard trip.
I didn't like the way of charging us extra 47 euro for cleaning but they never came to clean.
I didn't like the towels, there was only one towel per a person and has not been changed for 5 days.

  • Passable – Sylvia from Australia – 20 May 2024 (5/10)

    Good location

What could be improved: Strong smell of sewerage
    Nowhere to put clothes
No welcome information about how things worked

  • Overall the stay was acceptable but not quite comfortable. I think the accommodation is overpriced – Iryna from Germany – 5 June 2025 (5/10)

The room had everything declared in the description and all equipment was functional. The furniture is modern and new. The big supermarket was close and this an advantage of the accommodation.

What could be improved: For some reason at Bookng.com provided me with the wrong information regarding the point of key-pickup. I had to go to Graffalgar hotel first and only then to the office of Cocoon. I had to walk with the suitcases back and forth and this was quite stressful. But I would like to thank the employee of the Cocoon office for instructions and help with the key pickup.
Additionally, I was disappointed that I had to clean the bins, sort the garbage and look for the public glass collection point to bring the empty glass bottles 10 minutes away from the accommodation myself. I consider this as not quite hospitable as the price of the room includes cleaning. The room was clean but we could constantly feel the smell from the drain pipes. The instructions for heating and TV were absent which caused some inconveniences. The absence of wardrobe in the accommodation also brought inconveniences.

  • Not staying again – Theo from Belgium – 13 March 2025 (1/10)

What could be improved: Worst check-in and check-out procedure of any accommodation I've ever stayed in. They make you go all the way to a different location about a km away, so you have to go with the baggage in the rain just to pick up and drop the keys. Also the locker broke down when I tried to return the keys and had to be restarted, so I came late to work, because their totally unreasonable procedure and faulty system. For the price that they charge this is totally unacceptable.
