Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about A la Tour des Rohan? The address says Quai Au Sable, and honestly, I was expecting just another generic quayside hotel – but this place actually has character. I mean, you’re literally steps from the Ill River, and when I say steps, I’m talking about maybe a 30-second walk to where you can watch the tour boats puttering by in the morning. The building itself has that solid, unpretentious feel that a lot of Strasbourg’s older properties have – it’s not trying to be a palace, but it’s got this authentic Alsatian vibe that feels right.
What really works here is the location specifics that most people don’t realize until they’re there. You’re tucked into this quieter section of the historic center, away from the main tourist crush around the cathedral (which, by the way, is still only about a 10-minute walk). But here’s the thing – you’re also really close to Petite France, and I actually preferred walking through this area to get there instead of the usual route everyone takes. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent bathrooms, nothing fancy but everything works. Some face the quay, which is lovely in the morning when the light hits the water, though you might catch some early morning delivery truck noise if you’re a super light sleeper.
The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds obvious but isn’t always the case. When I asked about parking – because let’s be honest, driving in Strasbourg’s center is a bit of a nightmare – they pointed me toward a public garage that was way cheaper than the hotel options and only a couple blocks away. They also steered me toward this little wine bar on Rue du Bain-aux-Plantes that I never would have found otherwise. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities or anything, but for the price point and that 8.4 rating, it makes sense. You’re paying for a genuinely central location without the premium that comes with being right on Place Kléber or next to the cathedral. Plus, if you’re planning to explore beyond just the tourist checklist – maybe hit up some of the local brasseries or wander through the Krutenau district – this spot gives you a good base without feeling like you’re camping out in a tourist bubble.

Reviews
Very good – Gökhan from Germany – 8 March 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: Everything was Good except stairs. Okay for us but for travellers with large suitcases that staircases would be problematic
The stairs is too short , but it is a normal in France. However, the location was very great and room was very clean !! – Kornphaka from Thailand – 19 January 2025 (9/10)
Staff, location
What could be improved: StairsExcellent location in Strasbourg. – Caroline from United Kingdom – 7 December 2024 (8/10)
Location could not have been more perfect for the numerous Christmas markets. Comfortable bed, nice hot shower and everything you could need from a kitchen. Great communication from the host.
What could be improved: The small narrow stairs up to the apartment but this is common in France.Enjoyed our stay here – Susan from Australia – 8 June 2024 (7/10)
A great location handy to the main sights.
What could be improved: The stairs to the rooms are a very narrow spiral. I’m glad we only had carry on luggage and not a big suitcase or it would have been difficult.Very good – Alistair from United Kingdom – 16 September 2023 (8/10)
Great location and very historic building with lots of charm.
What could be improved: The stairs are very steep and narrow. It was all we needed and we enjoyed our stay. – Véronique from United States – 8 December 2024 (7/10)
Loved the location. Central and close to everything. Just perfect location wise.
What could be improved: The stairs to get to the apartment are narrow and steep. It is even harder while holding luggage. I would not advise those stairs for older people or people with reduced mobility.cozy stay – Suman from India – 24 October 2024 (8/10)
Location is awesome. Apartment has all the necessities.
What could be improved: A bit of upkeep needed.A lovely weekend stay in a wonderful central location of Strasbourg – Mara from Switzerland – 30 September 2024 (9/10)
The location is central right by the canal and walking distance to everything. The cathedral is just around the corner and wonderful restaurants nearby. The apartment itself is quite small but perfect for a couple on a weekend getaway. You had everything in the apartment to make it comfortable plus the disposable slippers were a nice touch.
What could be improved: The apartment is tucked away behind the front area so the view is only of the street below and not the canals. Also the staircase is a wooden spiral one that is very narrow, so you have to be careful climbing up and down with a suitcase.Strasbourgh Christmas market – Reinhart from Spain – 15 December 2023 (9/10)
The location was excellent, right on the river, close to the Christmas market, Lovely old building. It was small, but had everything we needed and was cosy and charming, well appointed and loved the touches like chocolate waiting for us
What could be improved: Needed somewhere comfortable to sit other than the bedPleasant – Helen from Australia – 30 October 2023 (8/10)
The location was excellent.
What could be improved: I would prefer check in information the day prior and i always like to have a full day of checkin – ie 24hrs that you pay for ie check in midday check out midday – check in at three check out at three.
